Mubarak / conditions in Palestinian territories
Cairo,

President Hosni Mubarak has held several contacts over the phone with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to keep updated on the latest developments in the Palestinian Territories.

The President sent an urgent message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to contain the explosive situation in the area urging him to take steps to avoid any more violence and blood-letting

According to a statement by information minister Safwat Al-Sherif, the President has given directives for conducting contacts with the U.S. administration to contain the current crisis.

Minister Sherif said that President Mubarak had called upon the Israel Government to seal off the tunnel it had opened under Al Aqsa mosque and start tangible steps for implementing the signed agreement with the Palestinian National Authority.

President Mubarak noted that this is the only means for camping down the deteriorating situation in the region and ending violent acts. A top of measures to be adopted by Israel to pacify the situation is to start redeploying its forces in the West bank city of Hebron, said Sherif.

President Mubarak reiterated that forging ahead in the Middle East Peace process is the right method for realizing security and stability, added Sherif.

President Mubarak urged all parties to halt violence and start steps for reactivating the Mideast peace process, Sherif noted.
