Following is the full text of President Mubarak's speech in the opening session of meeting of councils and parliaments of (Organization of Islamic Conference) OIC:
(Delivered on his behalf by Prime Minster Dr. Ahmad Nazif)
Brothers and sisters, heads and delegates of Islamic countries parliaments:
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I do welcome you in the state of honored Al-Azhar the lighthouse of knowledge and Islamic culture that embraces the whole world.
It is my pleasure to welcome you all at Egypt's territory and speak to you on the occasion of inaugurating this important parliamentary gathering, the 5th session of Islamic states parliamentary union that witnesses participation of more than fifty countries extending from Indonesia up to Cameron and Senegal as a symbol of the Islamic world extending east and west seeking unification of stances in defense of their causes, interests and destiny of their peoples.
Dear brothers and sisters,
This conference is held just a few weeks before the upcoming OIC summit in Dakar, for parliamentary delegates to say their word in this crucial stage that the Islamic world passes nowadays.
We actually suffer a critical stage amid regional and international challenges of crises, conflicts, upsurging dangers of terrorism and extremism plus tarnishing the image of Islam, its sacred symbols and communities.
We are sorry to witness inter-Islamic states conflicts and even inside the same homeland where blood is shed, souls are killed and wealth wasted. In so doing, stability is shaken and development efforts for better future are obstructed.
We are sorry as well, for racial and sectarian divisions that weaken our lines and distort our stances.
We are sorry again for what we witness at the Palestinian area, in Lebanon, Iraq, Darfor, Somalia and in Afghanistan and Pakistan in a way that shows our Islamic world as if it is targeted from its own people and from outside.
This comes in coincidence with continued attempts, hiding behind freedom of opinions, expression and press, to abuse Islam, its symbols and sanctities, besides continued practices of distinctions and fanaticism that target our Islamic communities in the Western countries in stark contradiction to situations raising slogans of human rights.
Brothers and sisters,
That's some of what our regional and international actual scene witnesses, nowadays, and we can only encounter such challenges and their likes by unifying our ranks, as peoples, parliaments and governments, so that we can talk in one voice in defense of our entity, interests and causes.
We have to turn our words into actions, to send a clear-cut message saying that the Islamic world is not to be violated or targeted, and its people can not remain prone to crisis, conflicts and interference.
A clear-cut message that rejects linking Islam and Muslims to a terrorism that has no homeland or religion, and rejects defamation to Muslims' sanctities and communities or undermining their entities, peculiarities and causes.
A clear-cut message that lays basis for genuine dialogue between the world's cultures, civilizations and religions; a serious dialogue based on equality, exchanged respect, acceptance of the other and joint interests.
A clear-cut message that calls for encountering the danger of terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, away from selective politicization and double standards, calling for a world order of proper justice, security and stability.
A clear-cut message that warns against the continuation of bloodshed, lack of peace and stability in several of our states, particularly the deadlock of reaching a long-awaited settlement to the Palestinian cause, which is the core and crux of the Middle East and Islamic world causes. A settlement that can end occupation and the sufferings of the Palestinian people and can establish their independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Brothers and sisters:
Your fifth conference in Cairo poses a convenient chance for getting aware of conditions of our Islamic world, and the challenges it faces and the aspirations it is looking forward to.
Egypt has tried and is still trying to boost our joint action within the framework and outside the OIC. And its role is proceeding to confirm Islam's moderation through Egypt's moves, Al-Azhar institution and its clergymen.
I am confident that your meeting in Egypt today will push the Islamic joint action forward, contribute at the parliamentarian level in providing it with new momentum, enriching its action and directions and providing our peoples with more conviction in our ability in encountering the present challenges and fulfilling the ambitions of the future.
I welcome you again, wishing your conference all success.
