Mubarak: Public freedoms to be boosted, democratic practices to be enhanced

President Hosni Mubarak stressed the need for giving wider attention to labour issues, creating job opportunities and controlling prices. The President underlined the importance of maintaining essential services of citizens and boosting freedoms and democratic practice.

Addressing the NDP bureau 14/8/2007, the President said policies which will be reviewed at the NDP Congress in November should give top priority to economic reform, increasing export and providing job opportunities.

The President said the NDP congress papers should give wider attention to developing Upper Egypt, and take care of the services fields there such as health insurance, drinking water, sanitary drainage, roads and communications. 

NDP Secretary-General Safwat el-Sherif said the President listened to the national strategy for energy until the year 2022, which was discussed by the NDP policies secretariat.

He stressed the importance of opening a wide range dialogue on this strategy and how to secure Egypt's needs of future energy.

The President also stressed the need for adopting clear cut policies in cooperation with the government in order to achieve maximum benefit from studies on underprivileged villages in order to raise living standards and to provide the basic needs of these villages.

The President further, stressed the importance of organizing exhibitions for displaying youth commodities and expanding loans offered by the Social Fund for Development (SFD) for micro and Micro-projects and extending direct assistance to the poor families.

Al-Sherif said the President reviewed an elaborate report on the importance of encouraging youth and women to take part in the NDP elections which will be held for the first time from the bottom to the top.

He said the President underscored the importance of holding the NDP congress on November 3 for discussing political, economic and social aspects and getting acquainted with citizens' priorities.

Al-Sherif said the President stressed that the policies which will be reviewed at the NDP congress should give top priority to economic reform, increasing exports, creating job opportunities and giving wider attention to water projects, fertilizers, land reclamation and satisfying the needs of new projects.

The NDP bureau held a meeting yesterday under President Mubarak for reviewing preparations for the NDP congress and elections of the party units which will start next week at the different levels.

Sherif said the President listened to a number of reports on elections of the party and had a briefing on the volume of new membership which has reached 200,000.

He said the party chairman will be elected at the first session of the NDP congress.

During the meeting, Gamal Mubarak, the Secretary of Policies Secretariat illustrated the results of a poll which is usually held before the annual congress and which determines political, economic and social priorities.

Sherif said the President stressed the need for developing sports legislation, adding the president called for holding a dialogue on local administration laws, economic courts, combating terrorism, and developing education.

Sherif said the President stressed that the members of the 9th congress should take part in an open dialogue on the Egyptian national security vision on which the regional and international considerations to be taken into consideration.

Sherif said the President stressed the importance of keeping in touch with citizens to explore their needs, expounding that the President will discuss in detail in the second half of September the full agenda of the NDP congress.

The meeting was attended by Safwat Al-Sherif, the NDP Secretary-General Dr. Zakaria Azmi, the Assistant NDP Secretary-General for Organization, membership financial and administrative affairs, Dr. Mogid Shehab, the Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Affairs, Gamal Mubarak, the Secretary of Policies, Ahmed Ezz, the Organizational Secretary and Dr. Ali Eddin Hilal, the Media-Secretary.
