The NDP Secertary-General, Safwat al-Sherif, said that party elections have prompted a deep political move all over the country.
Reports of ballot monitoring committees have indicated that elections were held on August 18 in 199 units, with a membership of at least 100 each. Voting was postponed in 14 units for failure to reach a quorum. The governorates of Cairo and Sharqiya included 3 units each; the governorates of Alexandria and Minufiya 2 units each; and the governorates of Suez, Daqahliyah, Damietta and Giza one unit each.
In Cairo, elections were held on August 19 in al-Drab al-Ahmar District in 14 party units to choose 25 members out of a total 307 contenders competing for seats, including 37 women.
Elections were also held in al-Gammaleyah District to choose 20 out of a total of 27 contenders.
