Safwat al-Sherif: One million NDP members took part in party elections

Secretary General of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), Safwat al-Sherif emphasized that the elections-supervising committees have succeeded in applying the rules of democracy and transparency during the NDP electioneerings.

Safwat al-Sherif highlighted President Hosni Mubarak's keenness on running the elections according to the democratic rules to confirm fairness of the democratic practices inside the ruling party.

The NDP Secretary General indicated that one million NDP members have taken part in the internal elections of the party representing 50 percent of the aggregate NDP members.

The elections are scheduled to come to and end on next Monday, said al-Sherif adding that the run-off elections will start immediately afterwards for another four days.

Meantime, the NDP Political Bureau under Safwat Sherif will discuss the outcomes of the internal NDP units elections that are due to end on Monday.

The step comes as a prelude for displaying a comprehensive report on the topic before the meeting of the NDP Secretariat General this week.
