NDP Secretary-General: Elections showed new youth leaders

The General Secretariat of the National Democratic Party met yesterday 13/9/2007 under Secretary-General Safwat el-Sherif to discuss preparations for the coming NDP congress due to open on November 3.

"The elections showed that there were a large number of youths capable of representing people and defending their issues" Safwat el-Sherif said.

Women came to represent 10 per cent of the committees of the party's unites, he said during the meeting Thursday.

The number of NDP members hit 2.308 million, including 85,000 new members, said NDP assistant Secretary General Zakaria Azmi.

About 3,000 of the new members were admitted to the party via registering on the party's website, he said.

The elections are serious and transparent, and represent an important stage for upgrading the party's performance.
