During the Period (1981 / 82-2005 / 06)
1- Education and Scientific Research
A- Education:
Over the period (1981/82-2005/06), the state has given special attention to education for its positive effects on the citizens' life President Mubarak has declared that education was the first national project to face the challenges of future.
 
The period has witnessed the implementation of an integrated system for promoting education, and working on finding a distinguishing Educational system, to rush to knowledge society under a new social decade based on democracy and justice crossing to the future. To achieve this, the state is working through the following axes.
 
Investments:
Volume of investments implemented in the education sector has increased over the period (1981/82-2005/06) as follows:
 
- Investment implemented over the period (1981/82-2001/02) reached about LE 33.2 billion.
- Investments implemented during (2002/03-2003/04) are estimated at approximately LE 9.1 billion. Also, the investment of education during (2004/05) reached about LE 4.1 billion.
- Investments allocated to education are around LE 4.1 billion in 2005/06.
- The Pre-University education budget increased from LE 388 million in 1981 to LE billion in 2003/04. Universities budget increased from LE 420 million to about LE 6 billion during the same period. Higher education investments during (2004/05) reached about LE 1240,6 million, and in (2005/06) investments earmarked to higher education are estimated LE 1375 million.

Public Education
The general education sector has made a leap in kind, covering several aspects of the educational process, leading to the development of curricula and teaching aids and the promotion of skills of staff involved in education. A comparison between figures for 1981/82 and those for 2005/06 will reveal the following achievements:
 
- An increase in the number of students admitted to primary schools from 922.1 to 1433.3.
- An increase in the number of students admitted to preparatory education from 561.400 to 1264.8.
- An increase in the number of students admitted to secondary education (general and technical) from 403.8 to 999.9.
- Absorption rate in primary education reached about 100 percent in 2005/06 against 80 percent in 1981/82.
- The year 2003/2004 witnessed a decline in dropout rates to zero percent in the preparatory stage against 10.81 percent in 1991/92.
- An increase in the number of the pre-university classrooms from 185,000 in 1981/82 to 3878.8 in 2005/06.
- A decline in classrooms density to 39.1 students for each classroom.
In 1991, the implementation of the Mubarak National Project for Developing Education was initiated.
Under this project, numerous achievements were accomplished up to 2005 of these we indicate the following:
- Total number of the national at-distance-learning net sites is 62 in educational departments and directorates and that of IDL (Interaction at-Distance-Learning) net sites is 20.
- Public schools were equipped with 22000 educational channel receivers.
- 104 preparatory experimental schools will be transferred to smart schools.
- The “Mubarak-Kohl Project” for promoting technical education was implemented in 44 schools, in 2006 where around 16,000 students received schooling. Number of graduates was 14,000 and that of trainers and teachers was 1700. Also participating in the project are 1800 factories, 400 contracting companies in 27 cities, in 18 governorates on the Republic's level. Professions that were trained on reached about 39.
- As regards promoting Egyptian girls, percentage of girls in pre-university education rose to 48.1.
- The number of one-classroom schools rose from 1460 in 1981/82 to 3146 in 2005/06 absorbing 68000.6 students in 2005.06 against 53000.9 students in 1981/82.
- In 1992 the community schools project was initiated under this project 4 schools were established and reached 212 in 2005. Such schools meet the needs of the various environments; taking in consideration that admittance rate was 30 percent for boys and 70 percent for girls.???? ????? ?????
Technical Education
Technical education was promoted (industrial-agricultural-commercial).
The school reached 1810 in 2005/06 against 839 in 1981/82.
 
Education for People of Special Needs:
- Number of Schools rose from 120 in 1981/82 to 804 in 2005/06.
- Number of Students rose from 7478 in 1981/82 to 36808 in 2005/06.
Private Education
- The number of private schools rose from 1758 to 4723 with an increase of 168.65 percent in the period from 1981/82 to 2005/06.
- The number of classrooms rose to 38305 against 14255 in 1981/82 with an increase of 168.71 percent.
- The number of students enrolled in private education rose to 1229108 in 2005/06 against 575678 in 1981/82 with an increase of 113.5 percent.
- A decline in classrooms density to 32.1 in 2005/06 against 40.4 in 1981/82.
Azharite Education
- Number of students enrolled in different stage of pre-university Azharite education rose from around 296000.6 students in 1981/82 to around 1772800 in 2005/06.
- The Number of students admitted to pre-university Azharite education rose from 78000.9 in 1981/82 to 454900 in 2005/06.
- Number of Azharite institutes rose to 8722 in 2005/06 and private Azharite institutes expanded to 15, including 9 in Cairo, 2 in Giza, 3 in Assiout, and 1 in Gharbeya.

Access to higher education increased during the period 1981/82 – 2005/06 through 23 government and private universities, including 436 faculties and institutes distributed as follows:
 
- 15 government universities, including 256 faculties and institutes.
- Al-azhar university, including 60 faculties.
- AUC University, including 4 faculties.
- 9 private universities, including 52 faculties, in addition to 64 private institutes.
A comparison between figures for 1981/82 and those for 2005/06 a number of achievements can be noted of which are as follows:
- Number of students admitted to higher and university education rose from about 140,000 to around 364643.
- Number of students enrolled in higher and university governmental education rose from 682.3 thousand to around 1824157.
- Percentage of girls in university education rose to 49 percent in 2005.
- Rate of the students enrolled in higher and university education reached 27 percent.
- Number of students enrolled in private higher education showed around 332375 thousand with 114315 students admitted in 2005/06.
- Open-education systems were introduced in some faculties in 4 universities; Cairo, Alexandria, Ein Shams and Assuit.
In addition, the guided irregular enrollment system was introduced, in all universities.
- Undergraduate English and French departments were added to the Faculties of commerce, Law, Economics and Political Science, Hostelry and archeology.
 
Higher Azarite Education????? ?????? .. ?????? ???? 52 ???? ???????
- An increase in the number of faculties from 31 in 1981/82 to around 60 in 2005/06.
- An increase in the number of admitted students from around 30 thousand in 1981/82 to around 122300 in 2005/06.
- An increase in the number of enrolled students from around 83 thousand in 1981/82 to around 54 83,00 in 2005/06.
  
B- Scientific Research
Scientific research has made great strides since President Mubarak's assumption of office, as he gave considerable attention to science and scientists for their role in modernizing and developing the society, and to catch up with accelerating current scientific advances worldwide.
 
- During the period under review, policies aimed to link scientific research centers to production sites were developed, at around 50,000 scientist and researchers.
The number of scientific research centers affiliated to the Ministry of Scientific Research is 14. Number of research and studies centers at the various ministries is 219 in addition to 114 centers in universities.

Investments
The past 24 years witnessed an increase in investment in the field of scientific research and the volume of expenses for scientific missions that reached about LE 1 billion in 1997/2005 plan. In 2003/04 Plan investment for scientific research programme reached about LE 497 million, and in 2005/06 plan about LE 500 million.
 
The scientific research sector accomplished the following achievement during 1981/82 to 2005/06:
 
- Number of research institutes and centers were established, including the following:
- The Theodore Belharz Institute for combating endemic diseases in 1983.
- The Technical and Technological Consulting Fund in 1988.
- The Mubarak City for Scientific Research and Technological Applications in 1993.
- The First Council for Space sciences and Research in 1998, as one of the specific councils affiliated to the scientific and Technological Research Academy.
- The year 1999 witnessed the launching of the scientific Research satellite channel on “Nile Sat”.
- In 2001 the innovation and Invention Development Agency was inaugurated.
 
Main Technological Project:
The National project for Technological Promotion:
- The first phase incorporates 34 projects at a cost of LE 1.1 billion, of which LE 950 million are contributed by the private sector.
- The Technology Valley Project over an area of 16.500 feddans on the east bank of the Suez Canal in Sinai.
Total investments for this project are estimated at around $ 12 billion.
- The inauguration of the Smart Village Project in September. It is being implemented on three phases to be completed by 2007 with investments of LE 2 billion.

E- Government
The project started in tune 2001 and succeeded in accomplishing numerous achievements including:
- Designing a web site for the Egyptian government on the internet.
- Designing a site offering governmental services for citizens coping with their requirements.      
 
Nile Water and Water Resource Conservation Program
* Projects of improving water quality in Lake al-Manzala and Damietta and Rosaetta Nile branches.
* A number of 5 treatment stations were established to receive sanitary drainage water resulting from Nile cruises in Cairo, al-Minya, Assiut and Sohag.
* Number of factories that have established treatment stations so as to prevent Nile pollution reached 34 factories.
 
Control Industrial Pollution Program
Implementing a database for environmental-polluting activities beyond the populated areas of the governorates has been completed. Workshops in Greater Cairo have been removed beyond the populated areas so as to limit pollution sources.
* Industrial drainage polluting the Nile was terminated for 82 establishments.
* Number of establishments that were conferred the ISO Certificate in the environmental field reached 127 in 2005/06, against8 in 1996/07.
 
Recycling wastes:
The national waste management program has been initiated. Number of recycling wastes factories in governorates reached 63 factories in 2005/06, against 10 in 1996/07.
 
Coastal Environment
* A comprehensive survey of Egyptian costs was carried out to locate the areas at risk of pollution. A number of 80 areas were located.
 
Natural Resources and Biological Diversity:
* During the period 1983-2004, a number of 24 natural reserves were declared over an area of 10 percent of Egypt's area representing 100,000 km2 as natural reserves so as to preserve the natural heritage and biological diversity.
* Scientific and administrative centers representing 60 percent of these reserves were established and properly equipped to receive domestic and foreign visitors.
* All illegal hunting activities are prohibited as an application to natural reserves law, environment protection law and international agreements tha?????t combat any activity that would affect environment systems.
  
2- Health
Over the period 1981/82 to 2005/06, it was the state's policy to improve health services and extend health insurance umbrella to cover a large number of the citizens, and activate the private sector's role in the field of health services.
 
Investments:
Investments implemented in the health ?????? ???? ????.. ????? ???? ?????sector during the period under review exceeded around LE 30.7 billion, distributed as follows:
- Around LE 28.2 billion in investments implemented between 1981/82 and 2003/04.
- Investments allocated to health care in the 2005/06 plan were estimated at around LE 2.5 billion
 
Major Achievements
The health section witnessed numerous achievements over the past 25 years. A comparison between figures for 1981/82 and those for 2005/06, will reveal the following:
- An increase in the number of public and central hospitals from 169 to 387.
- An increase in the number of rural hospitals from 39 to 1192.
- An increase in the number of beds from 84.200 to 170.000.
- An increase in the number of rural health units from 1880 to 4727.
- An increase in the number of physicians from 52.100 to 155.000 and the nursing staff from 60.100 to 187.00 nurses.
- An increase in self-sufficiency in medicines to about 97 percent of patient's needs against 73.6 percent in 1981/82.
This period witnessed an improvement in citizens' health conditions indicated by the following:
- A decline in infant mortality rate from 71 per thousand to 17 per thousand.
- A rise in the average life expectancy at birth from 58.1 years to 69.2 for males and from 60.6 years to 73.6 years for females.
- Extension of the health insurance umbrella to cover children, students and a large percentage of citizens.
The number of health insured individuals rose to 37.3 million citizens in 2005; who are receiving medical treatment in 7000 various clinics, 41 hospitals that include 2700 beds, 36 renal dialysis centers and 177 family planning units. Expenditures of health insurance services in 2005 totaled about LE 1.6 billion, and the insurance coverage reached 51.6 percent of Egypt's population.
- In the framework of the continuous efforts in the field of health services and the providing of new medicines and children vaccines, the following have been achieved:
- Providing all children with free of charge vaccinations against primary diseases. The total number of beneficiaries reached 15.2 million children.
- The annual local production of serum reached 96.5 million vaccine and serum doses, representing 95 percent of the country's needs.
 
State-Financed Medical treatment:
- Number of state-financed medical treatment decrees rate rose to 0.5 percent in 2005 against 2004, where 1,397,742 were treated during 2005, against 1,386,744 cases during 2004.
- State-financed medicine expenses reached to LE 1,568,652,218 during 2005 against LE 1,567,455,209 during 2004.
 
Pharmaceutical Policy:
Given its vital importance for citizens' health, pharmaceuticals are considered an indispensable strategic commodity.
- Medicine market sales volume reached US 7.211 billion during 2005.
- Local pharmaceutical production value reached LE 6.1 billion.
- Pharmaceuticals export rate reached 8 percent with total value LE 520 million to all Arab countries and many African, Asian and East European countries (92 countries) due to the consumption of the greatest part of the production locally.
- The Pharmaceutical Egyptian market growth rate reached 16.2 percent.
- Number of productive pharmaceutical factories reached 64. The private sector own 49 factories of it
  
3- Social Development
Over the past 25 years, the social responsibilities of the State have increased, especially towards the under-privileged and low-income brackets. In accordance with the State policy, a new ministry of social solidarity was established, including supply and social affairs ministries. The Ministry mainly aims at reforming the subsidy system so as to provide utmost care for low-income brackets and extending social solidarity coverage. For these objectives to come true, there is a need for an efficient civil society that works as a partner of the state to give an impetus to the march of development in coordination with all governmental competent authorities.
 
Objectives of the Ministry of Social Solidarity:???? ?? ????? ????? ??? ???????? ???? ???? ?? ??? ?????? ????? ?????
- Formulating a new social decade and paying due attention to provide an environment suitable for offering services (material or in-kind) to the targeted families so as to enhance their capabilities and enable them to be engaged within their society as efficient producers and participants in all walks of life.
- Decreasing the number of poor families at a rate of 50% by the advent of 2015.
- Answering the needs of families and citizens at an increasing rate targeted to reach 85%.
- Increasing the participation of the civil society and the private sector to reach 80%.
 
Subsidizing Commodities and Services
- A national project was initiated for establishing databases about subsidy eligible beneficiaries.
- About 16.5% of the total of governmental expenditure in 2005/06 was allocated for subsidizing commodities and services.
- Subsidy of bread in 2005/06 hit LE 7.1 billion i.e. a nine-fold increase if compared to 1981/82.
- Subsidy of supply commodities rose to LE 9.7 billion against LE l billion in 1981/82.
- Subsidy of electricity reached LE 3.2 billion in 2005/06 against LE 50 million in 1981/82. This amount is mainly meant to subsidize low consumption rates, benefiting low-income families.
- Subsidy of petroleum products rose to LE 22.1 billion in 2005/06 against LE 100 million in 1981/82. In addition, the state affords LE 29 of the total price of each butane-gas container and keeps low prices of both gas-oil and gasoline.
 
Social Insurance:
- Resolution No. 1140 of 2005 was issued to make minimum pension LE 60 per individual to rise to LE 80 according to the family number. It was put into effect on 1/7/2005.
- The number of families benefiting from social insurance pensions rose from 210,600 in 1981/82 to 1,300,000 in 2005/06.
- Each family benefiting from the insurance pension is offered a scholarship for each son in primary education estimated at 20 pounds monthly. In case of plurality of children, each is granted the scholarship value with a maximum of 100 pounds monthly per family as of 1/10/2005. The number of children benefiting from it totals 1.9 million at a cost of LE 30 million.
- The number of beneficiaries from the Social Fund loans hit 370,700. In addition, the Bank financed more than 362,000 projects during the period (1998-2005).
- Total loans disbursed from the Social Development Fund hit LE 4.1 billion during the period (1998-2005), thus creating about 864,800 job opportunities.
 
Social Affairs:
First: Caring for Family and Child
- Implementing a number of 78 projects, benefiting family and children in 2005/06 (nurseries, elderly homes and family guidance and counseling offices) at a total cost of LE 18,285,000.
- Providing an additional financial support estimated at LE 6,473,600 for the activities and projects that serve family & children.
- The number of family guidance and counseling offices reached 180 offices, benefiting about 14799 cases.

- Providing utmost care for basic education drop-outs. To this end, the state established a number of vocational formation centers that hit 71 in 2005/06 against 47 in 1981/82, in addition to 3 centers under construction. Number of children enrolled in these centers reached 3243 and number of graduates 1214.
 
Second: Caring for and Rehabilitating People with Special Needs
- The number of social rehabilitation offices rose from 15 to 158. Unprecedented, a number of mobile rehabilitation units were established in governorates in 2005/06. In addition, a number of 16 rehabilitation projects were implemented at a total cost of LE 1921 thousand.
 
- Number of rehabilitation projects reached 12 in 2005/06, benefiting 819 cases with special needs in Safour Village, Deyarbnegm hamlet (Markez) in al-Sharqeya governorate. These projects were implemented upon cooperation between Social Solidarity Directorate in al-Sharqeya governorate and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
 
- Providing periodical annual financial aid totaling 1794900 for central institutions and organizations working in the field of social rehabilitation. In addition, the state is keen on granting scholarships to blind male and female university students and providing an additional financial support of about LE 2.5 million for rehabilitation institutions.
 
- Number of non-governmental organizations in the field of rehabilitation reached 460.
 
Third: Youth Care
- In 2005/06, 9 social cultural clubs were established, thus bringing the total number to 547, benefiting 3 million young men and women. In addition, 144 courses were held to rehabilitate youth at social and cultural clubs and train them in handicrafts in 9 directorates, benefiting 5266.
 
- In 2005/06, 1557 seminars were organized for increasing the awareness of youth of different topics, benefiting 233688.
 
- In 2005/06, total number of young graduates assigned with the one-year public social service totaled 44483, of which 4646 are cases with special needs working in different walks of life through 13349 social service units. Out of this total number, 37500 are appointed to teach in classrooms for combating illiteracy under the supervision of the General Authority for Combating Illiteracy and Adult Education. In addition, 52550 are charged with conducting the population census during the period from 1/11/2006 to 31/12/2006.
 
- Number of hostels reached 200, benefiting 16688.
 
Fourth: Elderly Care
- Number of elderly homes reached 104, benefiting 3097.
- Number of elderly clubs hit 159, benefiting 26853.
- Number of elderly service offices totaled 27, benefiting 637, in addition to 52 physiotherapy units, benefiting 1258 in 2005/06.
 
 Productive Families Project
- Since its inception in 1964, this project aims at developing the economic resources of low-income categories. In 2004/05, the number of the project beneficiaries hit 1,852,962 families, against 236 families in 1981/82. In 2005/06, more 11896 families joined the project.
 
- In 2005/06, number of productive families' projects totaled 32733 and total of loans given for such projects reached LE 29857203. Number of marketing families hit 78060.
 
- Number of productive families preparation centers reached 337 centers and number of trainees 49589. Number of productive families domestic exhibitions hit 103, in addition to the annual exhibition “Deyarna 2006” during the period 11-18 /6/2006. The value of their products including garments, carpets, rugs and handiwork reached LE 256724 and the value of sales hit LE 504210,57. In addition, many exhibitions were held in 27 directorates on many occasions, with sales totaling LE 8770051.
 
- 2 productive families preparation carters were completed in al-Daqahleya and Aswan governorates at a cost of LE 680,000, 9 centers were expanded in Giza, Qalyubia, Beheira, Menufia, Ismailia and Suez governorates at a cost of LE 180,000 and 7 centres were expanded in Port Said, Beni Suief, Fayyoum, Marsa Matrouh, Menya, Red Sea and Luxor at a cost of LE 250,000.
 
Caring for Different Categories
2005/06 witnessed many achievements, salient of which are:
- Providing in-kind aid for those afflicted in desertification and drought areas at a total cost of LE 2,080,000 in 11 governorates, benefiting 46236 families.
- Providing financial aid for families whose income was negatively affected, at a total cost of LE 5,264,000, benefiting 6165 families.
- Providing an amount of LE 27,072,000 for a number of 87721 of militant families to enhance their social level.
- Providing an amount of LE 747,869 for a number of 2901 families of martyrs and injured civilians.
- Paying compensations due to those afflicted by the disaster of Ferryboat Salam 98 and the huge fire that broke out in Beni Sweif theatre.
 
*Associations:
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs):
NGOs in Egypt are amongst the most important social institutions that back governmental work. In 2005/06, a number of 1891 organizations were authorized in different directorates, thus bringing the total number to 21558, out of which 1195 organizations work in the field of eliminating illiteracy, with a total cost of LE 2901915, of which about LE 59571 are governmental financial aids.
 
- Revenues of the Fund for Supporting Associations, Unions and Civil Institutions hit LE 37761872.
Local Communities Development Associations:
Totaling 5916, these associations carry out 70 activities, benefiting 12491046. In addition, they implemented 38 projects in the field of protecting environment and provided loans to a number of 2151 cases including fresh graduates, bread-winner women and poor families.
 
Service Cooperative Associations:
They include consumption associations, totaling 105 and productive associations totalling14.
Non-Governmental Associations:
They total 26. In 2005/06, 8 institutions were approved to receive donations and grants.
 
Nasser Social Bank
- Nasser Social Bank was established in 1971 with the aim of realizing social solidarity among citizens. The Bank started with a capital estimated at LE 1.2 million that rose to LE 650 million on June 30, 2006, relying on its self resources. The Bank has 89 branches, 4690 Alms-taking committees and social solidarity capital estimated at LE 552 million.
 
- Total circulation loans provided by the Bank in 2005/06 reached LE 32.7 million, benefiting 18822 cases.
- The Bank provided LE 9.6 million to a number of 7235 projects for acquisition of means of production by Alms (Zakat) beneficiaries.
- Total proceeds of Zakat collected through Alms-taking committees and the Bank branches in 2005/06 hit LE 128.6 million. Total Alms amounted to LE 116.7 million disbursed in their legitimate channels, benefiting 157969.
- The Bank provided financial aids estimated at LE 3.9 million for emergency cases.
- The Bank provided an amount of LE 718 million in 2005/06 for low-income categories, benefiting 63210 to obtain the suitable house.
- The Bank provided LE 92.8 million for enhancing Small Projects Development Programme, benefiting 16200 and LE 11 million for supporting productive projects and fresh graduates' projects.
- The Bank provided LE 143 million for finishing conjugal apartments.
- On June 30, 2006, the Bank's contribution in establishing investment companies reached LE 263.3 million and realized revenues totalling LE 44 million.
- The Bank provided LE 433 million, benefiting 4972 for the acquisition of means of transportation and agricultural equipment.
 
*Insurance:
During the period 1981/82-2005/06, insurance coverage extended to all categories and many achievements were realized, salient of which are:
* The State contributions to the pensions funds in 2005/06 totaled about LE 11 billion i.e. twenty-seven fold (27 times) as much in 1981/82.
* The number of insured people rose from 10.3 million to 19.2 million.
* Insured people are now permitted to benefit from private insurance systems concomitant with the governmental insurance system.
* The value of disbursed pensions rose from LE 535 million to LE 25.9 billion.
* Number of pensioners and eligible beneficiaries rose from LE 3.9 million to 7.6 million.
* The number of pension disbursement outlets increased and new services were introduced to alleviate suffering of the elderly people, such as the pension home delivery service and increasing the number of Automatic Teller Machines (ATM).
* Law No 156 of 2002 was promulgated on the establishment of worker emergency aid fund which started operation in August 2002.
* Blanket insurance covered 100% of public transport passengers and road users.
     
4- Culture Sector
Culture is the soul of peoples. It reflects their present and past and looks up to their future. Egypt, through its long history, was able to be a spring for culture and arts as well as a bridge to communicate with the other different cultures.
 
The last 25 years have witnessed distinguished high performance in the field of cultural and illuminational advancement as follows:

First: Antiquities
- Restoring and developing the Sphinx and inaugurating it in a splendid international celebration in 1988.
 
- Restoring and refurbishing the pyramids plateau (phase I), the incomplete obelisk in Aswan, Ombu Temple, Dandara temple and the surrounding area, the obelisk area in Matareyah and the entrance of Hour Moheb tomb.
 
- Restoring ancient Egyptian tombs including those of Sesham Nefr, Sengam Eib and Ghanmaty in Giza, Al Hawaweesh tombs in Sohag as well as Banhasi in Ein Shams.
 
- Developing temples as Luxor, philae, Edfu, ad-Deir al-Bahari and valley of kings.
 
- Developing Tal Basta area in Sharqia, Tal-al-Amarna area and the Royal Tomb in Minia.
 
- In 2005/06 a number of Coptic and Islamic antiquities have been finished including: Sarabeet Al-Khadem temple, Hibs temple in Sakkara and Serapium temple. In addition, reducing the groundwater in Isna temple, Hathour temple in Aswan, Karnak and Luxor temple, Al-Shatby antiquities area in Alexandria and Senosirt I temple in Matariah.
 
- Since the beginning of the 80s, a number of archeological discoveries have been achieved in Ein Shams and Helwan as well as many excavations works in Lower Egypt especially in Alexandria, Sinai, Daqahleya, and Damietta and in Upper Egypt especially in the New Valley, Aswan, Nubia, Luxor and Sohag. From the very modern discoveries in 2006; the Torah coffins of workers and engineers of these quarries that reveals a new circle in pharaohs' history.
 
- The National Project for Documenting Egypt's monuments; all tombs and temples in Aswan have been documented and Al-Minia antiquities are due to be documented in 2006.
 
- Retrieving the smuggled antiquities as a collection of antiquities from US, two murals from Switzer land and Head of Amun's statue, priest Harbsy from Isis temple, wooden head of an offering-bearer and Zeus Amun statue from France.
 
- The National Project for Developing Historical Cairo under four phases and turning it into an open museum. Studies on this project started in 1998 by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Supreme Council for Antiquities. In 2005/06, 57 antiquity projects have been finished and 25 others are due to be finished.
 
- From the most important monuments that have been restored in Cairo in 2005/06: Amirtaz Palace, Mohammad Ali Palace, Fatimid Al-Moezli-Din-Allah and Bab-Al-Azab area.
 
- In 2005, Baron Empan Palace was restored and a celebration was held to mark the centennial anniversary of Heliopolis.
 
- Egyptian antiquities exhibitions tour the world of which: “Egypt History's Other Dimensions and Splendors of Heritage” in US during 2005/06 and “Egyptian Drowned Treasures” in Berlin in May, 2006.

Museums of Antiquities:
- President Mubarak laid the foundation stone for establishing the new Egyptian Museum on an area of 117 feddans on Cairo-Alexandria desert road at a total cost of about US Dollar 350 millions. In August, 2006, Ramsis II statue was transformed into its new Location in the Great Egyptian Museum.
 
- Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak laid the foundation stone for the Egyptian Civilization Museum in December 2002. The museum shows the achievements of Egyptians in different walks of life. It is to be built on an area of 25 feddans in Al-Fustat district, containing 50,000 pieces of antiquities at a total cost of L.E 200 million.
 
- Inaugurating Alexandria National Museum in August, 2003. The museum surveys the history of Alexandria over ages. In addition, the Museum of Antiquities in Bibliotheca Alexandrina, containing 1079 pieces, was also inaugurated.
 
- Inaugurating the Mummification Museum in Luxor. In addition, work is underway to establish and renovate a number of monumental museums in different governorates. In 2005/06, Rossetta museum, Coptic museum, Imhoteb museum in Sakkara and Al-Arish museum have been renovated.
 
- Refurbishing and rehabilitating the Museums of Islamic Art, Royal Vehicles, Royal Jewelry, Sharm Ash-Sheikh, Akhenaton, Sohag and Suez.
 
- Establishing “Mawqe'” Museum for gold mummies in al-Baharia Oasis, considered as one of the major discoveries in the 20th century. Furthermore, a hall for mummies has been established in the Egyptian Museum and it was supplied with glass boxes for exhibiting mummies in a way that is internationally appropriate.
 
- Increasing awareness of our monuments through establishing the Egyptian Museum School for Adults, the Egyptian Museum School for Children as well as the project for educating women and young girls in different Egyptian museums.
 
- In 2005/06, the Supreme Council for Antiquities organized a cultural season for Egyptian antiquities for six months as much as two lectures per month and another for Islamic and Coptic antiquities, for four months as much as two lectures per month as well, rather than the different monumental publications. The Council also organized many celebrations, exhibitions, festivals and symposiums aiming at spreading monumental awareness at the public, among which is the Little Golden Pharaoh” Festival.  
 
 Art Museums:
The plastic arts sector developed and modernized the art and national museums in order to preserve and make best use of them. Since 1981, Egypt witnessed a revival as manifested in the following:
 
- Inaugurating the Nation's House Museum, Modern Arts Complex in the 15th of May City and developing the Mahmoud Mokhtar and the Modern Egyptian Art Museums as well as developing handicraft workshops in the Traditional Handicrafts Centers (phase I) and the Electronic centre for Culture and Arts in the Arts palace.
 
- Refurbishing al-Gezira Museum (phase I) and the International Creativity Centre in the New Valley (Hassan Fathi Village), in addition to building information technology clubs to give the opportunity for those who care to be acquainted with all information about plastic art.
 
- Establishing a museum for each of Ahmad Orabi, Mostafa Kamel, Ibrahim Nagy, Ahmad Shawky, Abd el-Wahab and Om-kolthoum as well as A'bdeen palace Museum and al-Hadiqa Museum (al-Gezira Arts Centre).
 
- 2004 witnessed the completion and development of the 23rd July revolution Leaders Museum, Hussein Sobhi Museum in Alexandria and Prince Waheed Museum in al-Matareya.
- In 2005/06, the first phase of both saray al-Gezira Museum and Al-Fustat-based traditional crafts will be completed, in addition to replacing and renovating Taha Hussein Museum.
 
- Organizing 55 art collective exhibitions in the locations subsidiary to Plastic Arts Sector.

National Cultural Centre (Egyptian Opera House):??? ??????? ???????
Inaugurated in 1988, it is considered the elevated Egyptian culture bridge to contemporary world cultures. It comprises al-Gomhureya Theatre, Sayyed Darweesh theatre (Alexandria Opera), the citadel Mahka (narration citadel) and the music library. 2004 witnessed the start of building a cultural complex on the Opera House grounds comprising a Roman amphitheatre and an artwork and decoration facility. In 2005/06, the third phase of the national Cultural Center's extension project, in The 6th of October City is being implemented. It comprises workshops, stores and an open theatre. 40% of the works of this phase have been finished.
 
 Open Theatre Festival was held in Opera House, in addition to organizing 759 celebrations on Opera House theatres attended by 236444 spectators as well as developing and renovating Arab Music Conservatory.
 
Artistic Creativity Centers;
Many centers were established, salient of which are:
* Artistic Creativity centre at the Opera House, comprising a theatre hall, a video-tech hall, a modern dancing school and a movie house. In 2005/06, the first Festival for plastic Creativities for Child was held in fields of press, book arts, animation, puppet theatre and child arts, in addition to a number of accompanying activities, workshops, celebrations and cultural programmes.

The Academy of Arts:
The Academy of Arts was established in the 60s and is considered the biggest institution to graduate artists in all fields. Ministry of culture supported it as a unique university and member in Universities Supreme Council, the Academy has expanded through a number of projects including:
 
- Completing the Higher Institute for Cinema which comprises Cinema Institution, video studio, a building for the Academy workshops and the Cinema plateau that its educational part has been inaugurated to train the students of the Academy.
- The Higher Institute for Art Criticism on an area of 9500 m2.
- Completing the Higher Institute for Folk Arts on an area of 3100m2.
- Completing 85% of the Academy primary, secondary and l???? ????? ???????earning arts schools.
 
Libraries
Libraries are widely spread in different areas all over Egypt. Since 1981, 2681 libraries were built in addition to school libraries that reached 15,000. During 2004/05, 52 libraries were established in villages and hamlets. In 2005/06, Cultural Development Fund has finished establishing and furnishing the following libraries:
- Al-Negila, New permal, Abnoud, Sidi Ghazi, Tomas and Afia, Mubarak (Al-Fayyoum), Al-Mounira Modern Library, Al-Ashraf, Baltim, Sanores, Draw, Al-Sohba, Malawi and safaga libraries.
 
- From the most important libraries in Egypt: Greater Cairo Library (1994), Mubarak Public Library (1995), the Egyptian National Agricultural Library (1996) and New Alexandria Library officially inaugated in an international celebration in October 2002 and Civilizational Heritage Documentation Center is a subsidiary of it. In addition, Peace Studies Institution has been established in it which is the academic part of “Suzanne Mubarak International Move for Peace”.
 
- In 2006, Celebrating the World Book Day.
 
- In January 2006, Egypt organized the 38th session of Cairo International Book Fair 623 publishers participated representing 32 Arab and Foreign countries in addition to Egypt, and Germany was the guest of honour of the Fair this year.
 
- Cairo International Child Book fair witnessed in 2006 its 23rd session where forums and artistic shows were organized on the sideline of the event.
 
- The “Reading for All” festival has been annually held since 1991. In 2006, a celebration was held to mark the 16th anniversary of the festival under the slogan of “Culture is the Language of Peace”.
 
- The pioneering project of the “Family Library” has been continued for the 12th successive year in 2006.
 
- Renovation works have been completed in the National Library and Documentation House located at the Corniche El-Nel District. A celebration marking the 50th anniversary of establishing the Documentation House and the 175th anniversary of establishing the Egyptian Archive House have been organized. In addition, Restoration Center Project and developing Children Literature Research and Documentation Center have been completed.
 
- The National project for Translation issued in 2005/06 the book number 1000. The project comprised 30 languages of which: Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Hausa and Persian.
- Celebrating centenaries including Mahmoud Sami El-Baroudi and Yahya Hakki's centenaries.
 
- Seven magazines were issued; 3 monthly and 4 seasonal.
 
- Honouring Art, literature and social sciences images by granting them state Award of Merit, State's Promotion Award, Arts and Mubarak Awards.
 
- Providing unoccupation grants for 159 unoccupied in fields of culture, art and literature.
- The 20th session of Egypt Authors Conference” in provinces was held in Port Said with the participation of 300 authors about poetry and novel creativities.
 
- Organizing the “Third Cairo Creativity Gathering entitled “Novel and History” where more than 200 creators from the Arab Nation have participated.
 
- Seven contemporary cultural weeks abroad and 2 weeks for foreign countries inside Egypt have been implemented within the framework of cultural exchange with countries of the world. In addition, accord reports, executive programmes and cooperation treaties with 12 Arab and foreign countries have been signed.

Cultural Palaces and Centers:
- Modernizing and refurbishing 69 culture palaces and 358 culture houses, since 1981. In addition, due attention has been paid to the ambitious programme of cultural convoys that aim to overcome the shortage in cultural sites compared to the number of cities and villages.
 
- New culture Palaces were set up in 2005/06 including the following:
* Fowwa Culture Palace.
* Beilla Culture Palace.
* Shrouk Culture Palace (Suez).
*Child Culture Palace.
* Kafr Saad Culture Palace (Damietta).
 
- The following culture Palaces are underway to be completed; Ein Helwan, Kafr Shokr, Tahta, Denshwai, Hurgada and Luxor.
 
- Establishing a number of 35 information technology clubs in culture palaces in cooperation with the Ministry of Communication.
 
- Organizing the second gathering in Aswan at the youth saloon with participation of branches subsidiary to Culture Palaces Association.

- Developing the Metropolis Theatre, Floating Theatre, Miami theatre, At-Tali'a Theatre, as-Salam Theatre, Puppet Theatre, the Small Theatre in the Opera and Al-Horeya Lyceum Theatre in Alexandria, in addition to inaugurating Damanhur Theatre after refurbishing and modernizing it.
 
- Organizing 52 performances where the number of performance nights reached 1470 and were attended by 96228 spectators.
 
- Organizing the First Festival for Women Theatre in 2006.
 
- Holding the Festival of Theatre (Clubs (13 troupes) and the Theatre Festival for Provinces' Troupes (107 troupes).
 
- The Folk Arts House witnessed developing Al-Balloon Theatre as well as the National Circus ring. It also witnessed organizing 6 artistic and folk performances where the number of performance nights reached 836 nights attended by 282096 spectators.
 
The National Authority for Civilization Coordination:
It was established in virtue of the Republican Decree N0.37 of 2001. The citadel-based authority was inaugurated in 2004. It aims at disseminating values of balance, harmony and beauty in towns, villages, vacuums, streets, squares and everywhere in Egypt.
 
The authority is implementing a number of projects of which:
- Arranging the area surrounding the Books House.
- Ending the urban arrangement to the tourist path in Luxor in order to add historical and tourist dimension to the archeological area.
- Elevating the area surrounding Imbaba Airport within the framework of a plan to elevate slums and forming a harmonious environment.    
 
 5- Information Sector

Interconnection and openness to the world are considered the most aspects enjoyed by the Egyptian media in the course of a tangible leap during the past two decades, thus catching up with the new era with all its changes and data to become a strong and active partner to shape our new age.
 
Locally, the Egyptian media is characterized by a new constructive spirit and a robust orientation towards safeguarding the sublime values of the Egyptian society through making an optimal use of the robust media infrastructure and paying due attention to the content of media message. This message aims at reviving the national spirit, upholding the country's sublime interest, fostering optimism and hope in the future, maintaining the national unity and entrenching values of belonging and loyalty to our motherland.
 
 During the period under review, the Egyptian media made giant studies, represented in building a strong integrated media infrastructure as shown in the following:
 
- The Egyptian satellite (Nile sat 101) was launched in 1998, and the second satellite (Nile sat 102) in 2000, thus Egypt became a member of the world space club. The two satellites present a great national and strategic  service to Egypt, where it provide media services all over the country and remote community areas from North Sinai to Toshka, Owainat and the New valley. Both satellites are backing up land networks. In addition, they are playing a key role in enhancing interaction with the other cultures and transmitting different images of the Egyptian civilization to the world as a whole.
 
- The two satellites transmit 24 compact channels that carry more than 180 television channels and 800 Egyptian, Arab and International radio stations. Until mid 2005, more than 262 open channels, as well as radio and internet channels were used by million of viewers.
 
- In January 2002, the Nile sat launched its interactive transmission system. Together with the “Home Movie” or “TV on demand”, allowing direct viewer-satellite interaction. This service was offered for the first time in the Middle East. It is provided via the Nile sat through 10 new satellite channels in conjunction with “Show Times” channels.
 
- In June 2002, President Mubarak declared completion of Media Production city which has created a new reality in the area thanks to its state-of-the-art technologies that made the city “Hollywood of Orient” a major industrial base that helps enhance drama production in Egypt and the Arab world and translate Egypt's culture in the area.
 
- Establishing the Media Free Zone in 2000 as it is the biggest of its kind in the Middle East and is the main venue for international satellite companies. The zone achieves the optimum use of the integrated infrastructure of Egyptian media rendering Egypt an investment attractive country in the field media production and transmission. Media Free Zone comprises the following major bodies:
 
* Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC).
* Egyptian Satellite Company (Nile sat),
* Cable Network Egypt (CNE),
* Nile Communications Network (NCN),
* Egyptian Thematic Channels Company.
 
- In 2003, a specialized Egyptian company in the field of digital media services via the internet was established. This company aims at presenting television production to the public through the internet, in cooperation with the MPC and two companies in the field of internet and communications.
 
- In June 2002, the International Academy for Media Sciences (IAMS) was inaugurated. It aims at graduating generations of high-caliber media men, well trained both theoretically and practically to absorb the state-of the-art-technology. The Academy consists of four departments:
 
* TV and broadcasting production.???? ????? ??????? ?????? ????? ? ?????? ????? ????? ???? ??????? ???????? ?? ???
* Cinema Production.  
* Media Production.
* Multimedia and Internet Production.
 
- In September 2002, study started in the Academy for students to obtain BA, MA and PhD degrees in any of the previously mentioned specializations. In addition, the Academy offers vocational specialized diplomas in all media fields, news programmers, children programmers, editing, directing, and presenting television and radio programmers, video montage, acting and directing.
 
- The Egyptian radio transmission has been extended to Europe, USA and Asia through the satellites “Nile sat”, “Eutelsat”, in addition to broadcasting services addressed to all parts of the world in 38 languages including Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.
 
- A new FM band broadcasts in al-Areish to transmit the Hebrew programme “Kolkaheer” addressed to the Israeli People to keep them up-to-date on the Palestinian issue.
 
- Two commercial Radio and television Union and C.N.E, in addition to the eight new thematic radio stations via the FM opened.
 
- By August 2005, the thematic channels “Nile TV” started decoded transmission via the land networks, thus televisions sets could receive the transmission without dishes as a service to all categories of the society.
 
State Information Service:
Within the world's current developments, SIS managed to fulfill its serious information mission, by working with all the prevalent issues; whether it is local, regional or international, using state-of-the-art-technologies. SIS works according to a renewable media strategy and thought, and it always produces a new vision in its different media publications, implementing the following achievements:
 
* SIS launched its website in 1996 that was chosen by the UNESCO as one of the best cultural sites all over the world. Since 2004, the website was totally developed to keep pace with progress in this domain. The website was launched in 10 languages which make it as the long arm for the Egyptian media abroad whether by participation or interaction. About 10 to 12 million visitors entered the site monthly.
 
* SIS has actually become Egypt's memory that saves and documents history through the most advanced electronic library since President Mubarak launched the SIS intranet in December 30, 1999. In 2000, SIS intranet was connected to the net of the Central Authority for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) to form a nucleus for an Egyptian Intranet /Extranet Capability. The site comprises more than 200,000 pages, providing an overflow of information and data.
 
* Within the National Project for Technological Revival and it's sharing to spread awareness about communication technology, the SIS established 30 information technology clubs inside its media complexes and domestic centers in the governorates aiming to provide youth with the essential skills of dealing with computers according to the needs of the labor market and keeping them up-to-date about future developments.
 
* SIS pursues its efforts to modernize its mechanism according to a secured network in order to establish the video conference network to hook up its local information centers and its overseas offices to its headquarters; thus facilitating an efficient flow of information. In addition, the video conference technology allows participation in symposia and seminars. This service was initiated in 28 local centers as well as in 4 overseas offices in London, Washington, Paris and Berlin.
 
* Cairo rank 4th worldwide in view of the number of resident or visiting correspondents that reached 920 Arab and foreign resident correspondents. Until September 2006, the number of visiting journalists and correspondents reached 408, most of them from U.S.A. Europe, Japan, China and Russia.

* In 2004, the State Information Service (SIS) celebrated it's golden jubilee (1954-2004). It pursues its efforts to more achievements and projects, salient of which are:
 
- Computer Training Centre.
- Media Streaming Centre M.S.C.
- Public Opinion Studies and Researches Centre.
- National View Researches Centre.
- Producing two documentary films on the SIS, namely “Egypt in the memory of SIS” and “SIS in 50 years”.
- Issuing the media report in the beginning of 2004 in order to tackle Egypt's view to the world and world's view to Egypt.

  6- Youth and Sport Sector
Egyptian youth are the future to achieve development, progress and they are Egypt's ability to achieve modernization. The progress depends on what is presented to youth of care within the framework of an integrated strategy to build and develop abilities.
 
The last 25 years witnessed remarkable attention to youth and sport which is reflected on the volume of achievements in this field. Lately, special councils caring for youth affairs have been established; the National Council for Youth and the National Council for Sport.
First: Youth
Egypt works on empowering youth and giving them the sufficient opportunities to contribute effectively in the political, economic and social life and this is through:
 
Youth Centers:
- The number of youth centers distributed all over Egypt reached 4460 centers and more than 90% of which are in villages.
 
- Starting to develop 339 youth centers in villages all over Egypt, the number of developed centers rose to 2966 in 2006 with a ratio of 72% of total youth centers.
 
- Continuing developing youth centers' infrastructure and ending the establishment of libraries for 339 villages with a cost of LE 2,576,805, the number of libraries reached 2966 library.
 
- Working to introduce computer in youth centers in villages to reach 100 center at the end of 2006. All the centers will be finished during four years in cooperation with the Ministry of Communication.
 
- A plan will be implemented to establish a youth centre in each village that its population is more than 5000 citizens, and the priority will be for Upper Egypt villages and for the villages whose population density is high.
 
- There are direct and indirect subsidies for supporting youth centers. The balance of the villages' centre reached LE 4000 and the cities' centre reached LE 5500 in addition to supporting the different activities. In 2006, 96 youth centers were financed to equip halls with sports sets with a cost of LE 310,000.
 
- Productive youth centers initiative aim at transforming the distinguished youth centers to incubators' for productive activities, they began with 27 centers.
- As for developing services in youth centers, youth centers were supported with LE 9,532,000. They also motivated the role of 102 science and technology clubs in youth centers. 
 
- Youth centers were converted into cultural and sports gatherings in cooperation among the National Council for Youth, Culture Palace Authority and the Armed Forces.
 
Youth Camps:
- The number of youth camps reaches 21 all over Egypt.
- The plan of developing these camps started converting it into integrated youth cities.
- Abi Quir camp in Alexandria has been developed to be youthful and sports city, in addition to doubling its capacity. Development works of Hurghada, Raas Al-Bar and Luxor camps are to be finished by the end of 2006.
- Starting establishing 3 new youthful cities in each of Al-Arish, Port Said and Gamasa.
 
Youth Villages:
The project grants each youth a piece of land with an area of 6 feddans able to be cultivated.
It also includes the different services to guarantee the stability of the youth and their families in these villages. This is done in cooperation with the Ministry of Irrigation, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Housing, Authority of Reconstruction, Social Development Fund and the national fund for caring juniors, youth and sport.
 
- Feasibility of the project has been prepared.
- They started by Beir Al-Abd area in North Sinai and made detailed database about the youth who want to benefit from the Youthful Urban Communities Project.
- During the period from 1981/82 to 2005/06, the following has been implemented:
- Establishing Information Technology Clubs to reach from 463 to 613 clubs by the end of 2006.
- Establishing 106 clubs for science and technology.
- Expanding projects of combating illiteracy where the number of classrooms reached 913 centers with total students' number of 36244 student.
- Promoting the activities of 638 clubs for voluntary works, in addition to implementing the National Forum for Volunteering in Assiut governorate in 2006.
- Employing 670 young men and women in youth centers so that the number of beneficiaries reach 4420 in 2006.
- The National Project for Rehabilitating Young Graduates in cooperation with the Ministry of communication to develop the main skills in the field of Information technology.
- Implementing the model parliament of the juniors in 485 youth centers with the participation of 106 males and females of the parliament members which comprises 476 sections.
- Establishing civil education centers in each of Cairo, Alexandria and Suhag. They also implemented five courses for civil education with the world and Euro-Mediterranean programme. Implementing four youth exchange programmes in 2006 and organizing Juniors Arab Conference with the participation of 57 juniors from 11 Arab countries.
- Implementing a number of 11 religious convoys in 2006, 10 journeys with youth trains, 5 journeys among “know your country” programme and 61 journeys of the one-day journeys.
- Cooperation between youth camps activities and Suzanne Mubarak's Move in prevailing peace culture and establishing (Peace Forum for Development) in 2006.
- Publishing 12 booklets among the cultural series for juniors, signing a protocol with the Writers' Union to publish a monthly series for youth and distributing a number of the published booklets on youth centers libraries with LE 3 million.
- Developing the producing girls units in youth centers and establishing permanent exhibitions in the governorates to market girls' products. Women also gain a financial support with LE 10550 in 2006.
- Preparing a new draft law for youth bodies that coincide with the societies' changes.
Second: Sport
Egypt gives the issue of promoting Egyptian sport a great importance. This is in the framework of promoting the different policies for the Egyptian citizen.  Egypt also works on enlarging sport practices, developing the sports institutions, protecting the talented persons, developing the industry of the sports legislations.
 
Sports Institutions:
The period from 1981/82 to 2005/06 witnessed working on enlarging the sports activities to cover all Egypt, salient of which are:
 
- The number of sports stadiums in Egypt rose to 25, the most important of which are Cairo International Stadium that accommodates 72,000 spectators. It was developed with a balance that exceeded LE 150 million, it became a pride for the sports edifices in the Middle East, Arab Contractors Stadium in Borg Al-Arab city, Military Academy Stadium and Port Said Stadium, each of them accommodates 45,000 spectators and Al-Max Stadium in Alexandria.
- Establishing the bases of sports infrastructure where the number of playgrounds reached about 6784 open playgrounds inside and outside youth centers. Completing establishing 500 clubs in governorates and setting the foundation stone to 17 playgrounds.
- The number of covered halls rose to 35 halls, swimming pools to 73 and activities halls to 5241.
“The Mubarak Sport Complex” project at Cairo Airport road comprises tens of playgrounds for different sports in addition to all related services.
- A sports medicine hospital in Nasr City and 113 sports medicine units in governorates were built.
- Establishing the new building of the Olympic Academy and sports unions.
- Specifying areas in neighboring deserts to the entrances and exits of Cairo for horizontal expansion of clubs.
Sports Championships:
Egypt participated in a lot of international championships; in addition, it hosted several Arab, African and International championships. During the period under review, these achievements were realized:
- The Egyptian national football team reached the World Cup finals in Italy in 1990.
- Egypt won the World Male-Junior Handball championship in 1993.
- The Egyptian national team of body-building won the World Championship in Spain in 1978, in Turkey in 1988 and in Jordan in 1996.
- Egypt participated in the Mediterranean Tournament in 1997 where it won 20 medals (3 gold- 6 silver- and 11 bronze). Egypt participated in the same tournament in Spain in 2005 where it won 43 medals (14 gold- 10 silver and 19 bronze) and ranked 6th.
- Egypt participated in the African Tournaments in each of Harari where it won 151 medals (59 gold – 41 silvers and 51 Bronzes). It also participated in Abuja in 2003 where it won 214 medals (80 gold, 62 silvers and 72 bronzes).
- Increasing attention has been paid to individual games in 2004/05, thus raising the number of medals to hit 707 including 338 gold, 202 silvers and 167 bronzes.
- Egypt participated in Athens Olympic Games in 2004 where it won 5 medals including (one gold – one silver and 3 bronzes).
- In 2004, Egypt hosted Egypt International Vault and Arrow Championship held in Sharm Ash-Sheikh, the First International Golf Championship and the Billiard World Cup Championship held in Hurghada.
- Egypt hosted the Olympic Torch which passed though 34 cities in 27 countries in the 5 continents in 2004.
- The Egyptian Military Football team won the African championship for the fourth time in its history and the third successive time during 2004. In addition, it won the World Cup finals held in Germany in 2005.
- Egypt participated in the tenth Arab Games Tournament held in Algeria in 2004 where it ranked first as it won 170 medals (81 gold – 41 silvers and 48 bronzes). It also participated in the last Arab Tournament in Beirut in 1997 where it won 188 medals (92 gold – 56 silvers and 40 bronzes).
- In 2005, the Jolly Ville Golf Championship was held in Hurghada that is considered the first championship to be held for Golf professionals in Egypt.
- In 2006, the Egyptian Gymnastics team won 8 various medals in the African championship in Mauritius (4 gold – 2 silvers and 2 bronzes) and it ranked fourth.
- In 2006 Egypt joined the International Union for Maritime rallies.
- In 2006, the World Squash Championship was held in Egypt where the Egyptian Champion, Amr Shabana ranked first seeded over the world according to the International Professionals Association Federation in 2006.
- In 2006, Egypt won the gold medal in Boxing in the Boxing World Championship in China and a bronze medal in the World Weight Lifting Championship in Dominican.
Junior Football Championship:-
 
During the period under review, many achievements have been made, salient of which are the following:-
- Egypt won the African Nations Cup for Juniors in 1982.
- Egypt won the African Championship for Juniors in 1997.
- Egypt gained the third position in the African Championship in 2001.
- Egypt gained the third position in the Francophone Championship in 2001.
- Egypt gained the third position in the World Cup in 2001.
- Egypt won the African Championship for Youth in Burkina Faso in 2003.
- Egypt won Qatar Cordial International Tournament in 2003.
- Egypt won the Arab Championship for Male and Female Juniors in Jordan in 2004.
 
 Woman and Sport Activity:
The sports thinking witnessed a tangible leap for women, thus she was merged in all activities and sports institutions. Salient achievements in this field are as follows:
- Amending articles of associations for the Olympic Federations and clubs in 2000 in order to empower women to obtain membership of boards of directors. A number of 15 women were elected members of boards of directors up to December 2003.
- A new administration for women sport under the sports sector of the youth and sport Ministry was set up in 2002.
