Egypt... Status and Role

Since the dawn of history, Egypt has been known as the land of builders who constructed a very unique human civilization. In the 20th century, Egypt came as a pioneer in peace making in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, she was the first to work for establishing the modern Renaissance in the economic, political, social, cultural and legislative fields. This stands as a reconfirmation on Egypt's pioneering cultural role, civilizational status and geo-political location.

In addition, it comes as an embodiment of the sincere national will and as a continuance of the march towards reform and modernization since the very beginnings of the 19th century, as well as a supplementation of her democracy set by the struggling people.

All those have become a fait accompli to make the status of Egypt distinguished in the region.

Through paying due attention to the Constitution, law, justice and plurality, the role of Egypt gains higher rank to grant her the ability to shine with the liberal ideologies, in all walks of life, enshrined in her civilizational project.

This in turn necessitates the increase of the popular participation in order to speed up the pace of development and modernization. Egypt has known the Constitution (the father of laws) and the constitutional committees long before many other ancient countries.

She has been living under legislative law for a century and a half and has been experiencing the parliamentary life since 1824 to be a pioneer in this domain, if compared to the many other contemporary democracies. Thus, Egypt has lived an organized civilian life that is being governed by the norms of the contemporary life.

Egypt has always been working on entrenching the democratic practices, enhancing political plurality, deepening the popular participation in public elections, and emphasising the principles of the rule of law, independence of justice and openness on the experiences of the democratically ancient countries.

Moreover, she has always been keen on maintaining human rights, fighting terrorism and extremism, as well as honouring the role of woman by providing all the conditions appropriate for her progress and removing all the hurdles in the way of her complete participation necessary for achieving total progress.

Voluntary work has a long history in Egypt. Therefore, supporting the civil society organizations and deepening the culture of participation have become strategic targets for the national work. There are more than 16,000 private organizations in Egypt that work in the fields of development, services, and social and cultural care.

Such organizations play an important role in serving the society, developing the standard of living of citizens, enhancing efforts and programmes of national demands in a way suitable for the style of the Egyptian life.

This, in fact, serves for achieving the strategic option of Egypt towards peace, stability development and progress of all nations in the region.
