Youth and Sport

Celebrations in Cairo international stadium

Egypt possesses a substantial human capital, especially within the 20-45 age group. This young age group accounts for 65 percent of Egypt's total population. Therefore, chance is quite opportune to bolster the development process through falling back upon such young hands and new minds in all fields. It is youth that will take over the responsibility for building Egypt's future.

The Youth and Sports Ministry's strategy is to promote the cultural, social and sports levels for junior and young people, instil values of allegiance, belonging and citizenship, expand their participation in public life, provide care for the talented and innovators and provide necessary structures to increase girl's and woman's role in decision-making at youth and sports institutions.

First: Youth

Youth is the nation's backbone; the generation that will determine Egypt's competitiveness worldwide. The more we offer them care, interest, training and develop their physical and intellectual capabilities, the higher the nation rises in future. Therefore, the state dedicates great attention to this broad and significant sector through:

The Social Fund for Development (SFD):

This national fund was established under the Presidential Decree No. 40 of 1991 to remove suffering of low-income brackets. SFD uses flexible operating modalities that echo those of international and regional organizations, thus making it possible for the fund to deal in technical and administrative mothers with the donor countries as well as international, and regional institutions and organizations.

Youth and Small-size Industries:

Small-size industries are used to promote the comprehensive development process. In his meetings with youth, President Mubarak asserted the need for our young generations to break through the future horizons across the gateway of small-size industries. Thus, a new generation that can achieve development through creative work, self-reliance and interaction with the world will be built. A small-size industry is one that employs 10-100 workers, with investment cost-excluding land and buildings cost – of maximum LE 1 million and with capital of maximum LE 0.50 million, regardless its nature.

Youth and Sports Fairs:

The 24th session of the Youth and Sports Fair, organized by the Ministry of Information jointly with SFD, was opened in June 2003.

This year's session is considered the biggest ever since youth fairs started. The 2003 fair specifically highlights the importance of opening ex-port markets, promoting youth inventions and heavy industries.

The International Summit on Youth Employment:

The Ministry of Youth shared in preparations for the International Summit of Youth Employment. The Conference was held on September 7-9, 2002, in cooperation with the Alexandria Library, under the aegis and in the presence of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak together with 45 ministers. The conference aimed to exchange experiences with youth from other foreign countries in employment issues and combat of un-employment. An action plan on youth employment worldwide during the 2003-2012 decade was proposed.

Mubarak National Project for Young Graduates:

The number of beneficiaries from Mubarak National Project for Land Acquisition showed 45,833 young men, placed in possession of 230,000 feddans.

The Ministerial Committee for Mega National Projects agreed to appropriate LE 900 million over the next four years in order to provide utilities and infrastructure facilities to the young farmers and young graduates working in Toshka.

Youth Housing:

The project was carried out on three phases starting 1995. Benefiting more than 80,000 families, the project helps alleviate burdens for young graduates by providing them with opportunities to obtain housing units at affordable prices.
