The Supreme Committee for Combating Bird Flu under Health Minister Dr Hatem el-Gabaly said Wednesday13/9/2006 that no human bird flu cases have been detected.
It said that blood samples taken from 18 people who were in contact with infected poultry have all proven negative for the deadly HSNI virus.
The committee is comprised of the ministers of health, agriculture, environment, administrative development, governors of Cairo, Giza, Qaliubiya, Menufiyah and Sharqiya and the head of the State Information Service (SIS) along with representatives of the ministries of defense, interior and foreign affairs.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) hailed Tuesday12/9/2006 Egypt's transparent approach in combating bird flu.
It said-only 14 human bird flu cases have been detected in Egypt, of whom six have died.
