"An avian flu case has been detected among birds in Aswan, southern Egypt," Health Ministry Spokesman Abdel-Rahman Shahin said Tuesday26/9/2006.
Birds rose in a house in Edfu, Aswan, tested H5N1 positive, he said, citing a vet. Central labs report.
People in contact with the infected chickens had no infection symptoms, he said, adding blood samples were taken for testing.
The infected birds are being culled.
