
For the first time ever, Egypt is set to host the 20th International Olympiad in Informatics, due to take place on August 16 through 23.
Local agencies participating include the Ministries of Education, the Interior, Civil Aviation, Tourism, and Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Arab Academy for Science & Technology and Maritime Transport.
Competing are 320 contestants aged 12 to 20 representing 80 countries, the widest participation since the beginning of the Olympiad.
As an advantage for hosting the Olympiad, Egypt is allowed to enter two teams, four members each, all highly trained and qualified.
The IOI is one of the world's most recognized computer science competitions. whose idea at was proposed the 24th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris by the Bulgarian delegate Professor Sendov in October 1987.
The event's arrangements have been finalized; the communication network, plus 450 computer sets are already installed together with the testing and evaluation applications.
An 8-day program was also drawn allowing guests to discover Egypt both old and new.
