
Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, Head of the Integrated
Care Society (ICS), announced in 2004 the society's sponsorship of a new project for raising the living standard of Arab el-Walda area in Helwan, in collaboration with the concerned ministries, NGOs and local. This is a pilot developmental project taken place through positive partnership of different governmental, non-governmental and private institutions.
Project's Objectives
1- Raising human development level through improving health, educational, cultural and social levels.
2- Upgrading infrastructure.
3- Improving environmental situation.
4- Raising inhabitants' economic level.
5- Promoting inhabitants' participation in realizing the project's objectives.
Project Mechanisms
1- Conducting field studies of the area by specialized work teams.
2- Exploring human and material resources available in the area.
3- Specifying targeted problems and development gaps.
4- Determining priorities on the short and long terms in accordance with inhabitants' needs.
5- Specifying potential governmental and NGO partners.
6- Setting an administrative and organizational structure for the project and furnishing a project headquarter and partners' headquarters.
7- Forming a steering committee for development and improvement projects, including an official from the concerned ministry, an executive from the municipality/governorate, a civil society representative, a donor representative, an NGO representative, a private sector representative and the project manager representing ICS.
On August 9, 2004, Mrs. Mubarak laid the foundation stone to give the go-ahead for the establishment of the project.
Achievements
Environment and Cleansing Sector
• Removing vast areas of garbage and implanting more than 1000 trees and palm tress, besides various gardens.
• Paining buildings in a 40,000 square meters with one color for harmony.
• Widening and paving main streets.
• Providing cleansing companies' services.
Health Sector

• Sending regular medical convoys for free medical service.
• NGOs and private sector society's participation in providing free medicines for incapable cases.
• Allocating a suitable site for setting up a permanent medical center.
• Furnishing and equipping a temporary medical center.
Education Sector
• Restoring and maintaining all education ministry schools in the area (4 schools).
• Allocating a suitable site for a school complex and initiating building works.
• Military production ministry donation of equipment for more than three classrooms.
Youth and Sports Sector
• Providing financial support for sports and cultural activities in the areas club.
• Providing sports ware for sports teams there.
• Allocating an area of 4.5 feddans for the establishment of a youth sports center in Ezbeit el-Walda.
• Launching the establishment of a youth service center on the army land, provided with more than 8 courts and a social activity building (As a contribution from the armed forces).
Service Sector
• Widening main and by-streets as well as coordinating with concerned authorities for widening the area's entrances and exits to go with increasing population.
• Working for changing potable water network for better distribution
• Allocating a site for the establishment of a police station.
• Providing an immediate solution for sewage problem.
• Coordination with the municipality for the launch of street lightening.
• Issuing permits for additional two bakeries.
Social Aid Sector
• Issuing national number IDs for more than 700 women.
• Opening training classes to raise women cultural and social levels.
• Providing school uniforms for poor pupils and students, along with distributing food on needy families and orphans, contributed by NGOs and private sector.
Communication Sector
• Civil society's allocation of a building for communication sector to include post, telegraph and telephone office as well as establishing a club for training information technology.
• Providing paid phones all over the area.
