The ICS started its activities by developing some school libraries in different districts in Cairo. It aimed at supporting the educational process and promoting significance of reading. It was natural to for the ICS to set up public libraries dedicated for children. The first of those libraries came into existence in 1985 followed with seven more ones.

Library Objectives

The library offers services for children from four up to fifteen years old aiming at:
• Encouraging and developing reading habits
• Promoting different growth elements for the child: congenial, social and psychological.
• Discovering and brushing artistic talents of the children.

Such libraries are rich in prints, information vessels and knowledge resources for children. They comprise about 101852 audio-video materials with easy access for children.

Activities and services

The children practice various activities under integrated work-team. Those activities comprise: integrated care 7
1. Holding cultural contests in reading.
2. Training in press editing and wall magazines.
3. Allocating directed-reading periods under experienced librarians.
4. Introducing children stories suiting age of each category.
5. Explaining how to make best use of the library.
6. Holding ceremonies, shows and exhibitions.
7. Holding acting programs under experts supervision.
8. Holding workshops for Arabic calligraphy.
9. Holding courses to developing innovations in different arts.
10. Introducing cinema and entertainment shows for children.
11. Holding computer and Internet courses.
12. Training on practicing dialogues.
13. Holding journeys for different sites of historical significance.
14. Sharing in "Reading for All" festivals.
