Reading for All Festival
The idea of "Reading for All" kicked off when it was an MA thesis project of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, wife of Egypt's president at AUC (American University in Cairo) in 1979.
The project was applied on Assalam School, Boulaq, (Giza, Egypt). Then the number of schools was doubled. The idea of the festival came into existence at the conference of the world union of publishers that was held in London, 1988.
There the phenomenon of children's libraries in Egypt was discussed as well as the social and cultural role played by such libraries in children and youngsters life. Mrs. Susanne Mubarak adopted the idea and it was agreed to name it (Reading for All Festival).
On June 7, 1991, the first celebration for that festival was held in Cairo for three months covering all cities, villages all over Egypt.
In 1992 the festival got new dimension to care for village children and establishing mobile libraries. In 1993 the festival came under the slogan of "A library everywhere".
The festival developed by time and grew a national occasion with new slogans every year.
