Nazif: Government Attracts Investments Totaling $40bn

Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif said on 1/11/2009 that the government of the National Democratic Party lays down policies that benefit the people.

Addressing the NDP plenary session on Sunday 1/11/2009, Nazif said the government is keen on fully coordinating with NDP for the interest of the people.

To the government, NDP presents the people's aspirations, the government then turns them into executive programmes, he explained.

The government provides realistic solutions to various issues, Nazif said, adding that it does not give promises that it can not keep.

The government is working for all categories: farmers, workers, students and employees, and is paying due attention to low-incomers and the poor.

Premier Nazif said that the volume of Egyptian economy has exceeded one trillion Egyptian pounds, and the government succeeded in providing 3.4 million job opportunities during four years.

Egypt's economy helped attract additional resources accounting for LE70 billion, he went on to say.

Nazif added the Egyptian economy was also able to protect citizens against the effects of the global financial crisis and food commodity price hikes during the past two years.

As regards the country's future economy, he said "Today we don't fear any urgent crises or any collapse in the Egyptian pound."

"No one believes that 10 billion dollars of investments last year could lead the Egyptian economy safe and sound out of the international financial crisis... Our economy could create 3.4 million jobs and help attract additional resources to the tune of L.E.70 billions that were used in infrastructure construction." he added.

Egypt hopes to attract 14 million tourists a year, said the prime minister.

When the government promised to build one thousand factories and half a million houses as well as increase employees' salaries and pensions, some raised their eyebrows, he recalled.

"They now cannot but appreciate our efforts after we have fulfilled our promises."
