Mubarak, Clinton discuss peace process progress

السيد الرئيس محمد حسنى مبارك

President Hosni Mubarak Wednesday 4/11/2009 receives Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who arrived in Cairo Tuesday 3/11/2009. Clinton had expressed the desire to visit Egypt on her way back from a tour that took her to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestinian territories, Israel and Morocco.

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said President Mubarak and Clinton will discuss ways of reactivating the peace process which is currently passing through a critical juncture.

Abul-Gheit further said military solutions alone will not lead to maintaining stability in the areas of tension.

He stressed the need for a full dressed strategy to deal with the existing crises taking into consideration the political, economic and cultural dimensions.

This came during a meeting held by Abul-Gheit with the Deputy Secretary of Defense for Security and International Affairs, currently visiting Egypt.

The meeting dealt with an assessment of joint regional and international challenges mainly those regarding peace efforts in the Middle East, the issues of the Sudan, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Afghanistan, nuclear proliferation and confronting increasing influence by Al-Qaeda organization in the African Horn.
