FM: Egypt's new ambassador to Iraq in Baghdad soon

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said on 3/11/2009 the new Egyptian ambassador to Iraq Sherif Shahin will officially launch his tour of duty in Baghdad soon.

He said the appointment of the new Egyptian ambassador in Iraq reflects Egypt's support for Iraqi government and people to overcome the difficulties they are currently facing, Abul-Gheit said.

Egypt will support Iraq for ever and will continue exerting efforts to help the Arab country restore peace and proceed with the march of development, Abul-Gheit said Tuesday.

At a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari in Cairo, Abul-Gheit said Egypt as a key Arab state will play its role in offering all needed help for Iraq to overcome all the hardships and challenges it faces.

Abul-Gheit termed as important the convocation of the Egyptian-Iraqi committee and the strategic dialogue committee as well as the signing of several memorandums of understanding and agreements between the two sides.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari's visit to Egypt leading a high-ranking delegation reflects the two countries' keenness on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the various domains, Abul-Gheit said.

The new Egyptian ambassador to Iraq will take over his post within days, Abul-Gheit added, voicing hope the two countries will proceed with the march of beefing up bilateral ties.

Zebari expressed gratitude to Egypt for its keenness on helping Iraq and furthering cooperation with it on all fronts.

He deemed as great achievement the agreements signed during the committee meetings as this will facilitate benefiting from Egyptian expertise.
Abul-Gheit said the policy of axes is completely ruled out from the dictionary of the political and diplomatic action.

He said Egypt does not encourage this policy whether at the level of inter-Arab relations or between Arab and regional parties.
