Sorour Urges Parliaments to Co-work for Sustainable Development

Speaker of the Egyptian People's Assembly Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour has called on world parliaments to work together to achieve sustainable development for their peoples.

Addressing the World e-Parliament Conference in Washington Wednesday 4/11/2009, Sorour said such cooperation, particularly in ICT, will help parliaments better tackle common files such as poverty, crime and disease, according to a statement by the Egyptian Lower House released in Cairo.

Parliamentary cooperation will also help developing countries overcome problems caused by globalisation, Sorour said.

The conference is expected come up with more specific recommendations as far as inter-parliamentary communication is concerned.

Sorour concluded that a plan is needed to upgrade parliamentarians' IT skills.
