The new Egyptian ambassador to Iraq Sherif Shahin arrived in the capital Baghdad Friday.
In pre-departure statements, Shahin said Egypt is keen on boosting cooperation with Iraq.
Shahin is the first Egyptian ambassador to Iraq since late Ehab El-Sherif was assumed dead after he was kidnapped.
Egypt is opening its embassy in Baghdad in order to boost ties with the Arab country, Shahin said.
Shahin stressed Egypt's support for the Iraqi people and government.
Shahin said that he will work hard to activate agreements signed between Cairo and Baghdad during the joint committee meetings last week.
