This is the smallest of the four Tiran reefs.. Thomas is for experienced divers only, as the currents found here can be strong, especially at the outer edges of the reef. Thomas is usually a drift dive.
Check the prevailing wind strength first while starting the dive on the southern edge. Most of the life, color and soft corals are in the 18-30 meter depth range, so there is no real need to venture beyond this depth.
This is a good place to shark-watch, because of the current. The current will quite often change direction - sometimes it is with you and sometimes not. Check with your dive guide. One key feature of Thomas is a deep canyon which is on the east side.
The canyon starts at approximately 35 meters and extends seaward to well below safe diving depth. The canyon is very scenic and worth a look, but only for experienced divers. Check air and depth limits regularly and stay together.
