'Tourism is good for all of us' is the title of a campaign announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Information yesterday4/4/2006 in a press conference.
The five-year campaign, which starts this month, is aimed at raising public awareness of the tourism industry.
"A million visitors to Egypt create 200,000 jobs," said Ahmed el-Khadem, Chairman of Egyptian Tourist Authority.
He added that the objective of the campaign was to show the public how tourism was important to the economy, especially with regard to job creation.
"The campaign will be staged through the media, public relations, market research and training for those who come into direct contact with tourists," el-Khadem added.
In order to encourage Egyptians to act positively, the campaign will start with Egyptian ambassador for tourism.
"This title will be given to those who have a positive attitude in their dealings with tourists.
"I am hoping for 75 million ambassadors for tourism," he said.
Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garanah believes that all Egyptians must cooperate to give tourism in Egypt the place it really deserves.
"All society is responsible for this national campaign, which will affect all of us if we succeeded in increasing tourism," Garanah said.
Ministry of Information spokesperson, Suzan Hassan said she was hoping for a new image of tourism and a reminder for Egyptians of their beautiful traditions.
"Egyptians are friendly and hospitable and those traits are what we have to stress upon when marketing Egypt as a destination," Hassan said.
