The meetings of the 27th round of the African Union (AU) Summit to be held on July 17-18 place in the Rwandan capital Kigali.
The AU Summit will be held to declare 2016 an African Year of Human Rights.
The topic of the summit had been recommended by the African commission on Human and Peoples' Rights and the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights.
Holding under the theme “2016: African Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women”, the 32nd ordinary session of the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC) opened, calling for solidarity and self-reliance so as to “build an African Union of people”.
Meetings will review a report by the Peace and Security Council (PSC) and discuss means by which to activate peacekeeping operations in the continent.
Figuring high in the summit will also be the issues of continental integration and the African free trade zone.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that Shoukry will hold important talks with his African counterparts on the fringe of the AU summit.
Shoukry's meetings will focus on ways to coordinate African stances at the different world organizations, especially in light of Egypt's current membership of the UN Security Council and the African PSC, Abu Zeid said.
