Sun falls perpendicularly on Ramses II face

The sun fell on the face of Ramses II in Abu Simbel Temple in Aswan on Saturday 22/10/2016 for 20 minutes.

The unique astronomical phenomenon, which occurs twice during the year, started at about 5:52 am and lasted for 22 minutes.

Antiquities Minister Khaled Anany, Culture Minister Helmy Namam, Tourism Minister Yehia Rashed, nominee for UNESCO chief Moushira Khattab attended the sun falling perpendicularly on King Ramses II face in Abu Simbel Temple.

Also, about 1,100 foreign tourists and 1,300 Egyptians attended the event.

Head of Abu Simbel Antiquities Department Hossam Aboud said that the number of tourists who attended the event is an indication of the revival of tourist movement in the city.

More than 20 news agencies and Egyptian, Arab and international TV channels attended the event, he added.
