Egypt Naval Forces 49th Anniversary

The Egyptian Naval Forces celebrates on 22nd of October 2016 its 49th anniversary. This memory is precious to every Egyptian, where the Naval Forces have defeated the Israeli Naval Forces for the first time after Egypt was defeated in 1967. The Naval Forces have sunken the Israeli Eilat Destroyer on 21 October 1967. Not only had this victory restored back the confidence of Naval Forces, but restored the whole Armed Forces confidence as well.
The Egyptian Navy is the maritime branch of the Egyptian Armed Forces. It is the strongest navy in the Middle East and Africa. The navy's missions include protection of more than 2,000 kilometers of coasts of the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, defense against anyone who approaches the Suez Canal, the 21 ports, 98 maritime targets and other coastal targets, and support to army operations.
The navy’s missions also include protecting Egypt’s coasts, territorial waters and oil and gas platform and combating water contamination and illegal immigration.
The Egyptian Naval Forces has been working to upgrade its abilities to match the world's naval forces.
In December 2015 Egypt received the first submarine out of four German submarines -Type 209-1400.
In February 2015, The Egyptian Navy ordered one FREMM vessel. In June 2015, French naval shipbuilder DCNS transferred the FREMM frigate Long Live Egypt (Tahya Misr) to the Egyptian navy.
On 23 June 2016 Egypt received the first Mistral-class Landing Helicopter Dock- named after late president Gamal Abdel Nasser and on 16 September Egypt received the second named after late president Anwar El-Sadat.
