President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed on Saturday 19/11/2016 his appreciation to US President-elect Donald Trump, who represents the choice of the American people.
In an interview with Portuguese news agency (LUSA), Sisi said Trump's statements during his campaign trail do not necessarily reflect the actions he will take as president.
The President called for avoiding jumping into conclusions or worrying about future US actions or policies in the Middle East.
"We have to distinguish between the rhetoric that takes place within presidential campaigns and the real and actual administration of a country after the inauguration," Sisi said. "There will be a chance for more thorough readings."
The President said he believes that Trump will be vigorously engaged with issues in the region.
He expected more support of the Egyptian-US ties when Trump takes office as the US president-elect has shown deep and great understanding of what is taking place in the region as a whole and Egypt in particular.
On his coming visit to Lisbon, president Sisi said the visit would be the first by an Egyptian president to Portugal in 24 years and the first State visit to be hosted by the European country since president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took office in March.
He congratulated the Portuguese people on choosing Antonio Guterres as the new secretary-general of the United Nations. President Sisi expressed confidence that Guterres will successfully lead the international organization given his great experience and qualifications.
President Sisi renewed the Egyptian State's keenness on consolidating the values of citizenship, unity of the national fabric and non-discrimination on the basis of religious affiliations.
President Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness on achieving a balance between maintaining security and addressing attempts to destabilize the country on the one hand, and upholding democracy and respect for human rights and freedoms on the other.
He added that the State spares no effort to improve the basic services provided to citizens, such as health care and education, as well as providing adequate housing for all segments of the society.
The President briefed LUSA on measures taken to form a youth committee to review the young detainees list and releasing them in accordance with the provisions of the law and the powers provided by the Constitution.
With regard to the economic situation, Sisi stressed the State's keenness on protecting low-income brackets by taking a package of measures aimed at alleviating them of the repercussions of economic decisions that have been taken recently in the context of the economic reform program.
