Belarus President visit to Egypt 2017

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived to Egypt on Sunday 15/1/2017 on a two-day visit to Egypt.

 

The two-day visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of establishing Egyptian-Belarus diplomatic ties. It is meant to further strengthen the "historical friendship" between Cairo and Minsk.

 

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met his Belarus counterpart on Sunday at the Ittihadiyah Palace. Egypt is keen on boosting bilateral relations with Belarus at all levels, President El Sisi said.

 

During talks, the Egyptian leader stressed the importance of bolstering cooperation and exchanging experience with Belarus in different fields, especially the development, economic and investment domains to achieve prosperity and progress in the two countries.

 

For his part, Lukashenko expressed his appreciation for efforts exerted by the Egyptian leadership and government during the past two years to preserve stability and push forward the development march in Egypt.

 

The Egyptian people have the ability to overcome all challenges through maintaining their unity and standing behind their leadership Lukashenko added. Belarus supports the establishment of a free trade zone between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union with the aim of increasing trade exchange and making good use of Egypt’s distinguished geographical location to get access to Arab and African markets, Lukashenko noted.

 

During the talks, the two leaders touched on means to cement bilateral ties and cooperation in various domains, including the agricultural industrialization, fish farms, sewage treatment and drinking water.

Agreements

- President Abdel Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 the joint declaration between the two countries and attended the signing ceremony of joint agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries.

 

-  Minister of Defense and Military Production Colonel General Sedki Sobhi and head of the Belarus government committee on military industries Sergei Gurulev signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 a memorandum of understanding in the fields of technical cooperation and defense industries.

 

- Minister of Culture Helmi Namnam signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 with Belarus Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei a memorandum of understanding in the field of culture.

 

- Minister of Justice counselor Hossam Abdel Rahim signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 with his Belarus counterpart Oleg L. Slizhevsky a legal assistance agreement and another agreement to extradite criminals between the two countries.

 

- Minister of Youth and Sport Khaled Abdel Aziz signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 with Belarus Minister of Sports and Tourism Alexander I. Shamko a cooperation agreement in the field of sport training.

 

- Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Esam Fayed signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 with Belarus Minister of Agriculture and Food Leonid K. Zayats a memorandum of understanding in the field of agriculture.

 

- Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Ati signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 with Belarus Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrej Kaŭchuta a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the fields of environment preservation, use of natural resources, rationalization of water and climate change.

 

- South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda signed on Sunday 15/1/2017 with the foreign minister of Belarus a joint program of action of 2017-2018 to put into force a memorandum of understanding in the fields of trade and economic, social and cultural cooperation, which was signed in South Sinai governorate and Minsk region in November 2016.

 

- Egyptian Water Resources Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati and Belarus Natural Resources and Environment Protection Minister Andrei Kaŭchuta signed on Monday 16/1/2017 a memorandum of understanding on rational use of water resources and protection. The memorandum includes 13 spheres of cooperation to benefit from the Belarus expertise, especially in the flooding, early warning, drainage treatment and other domains. The Belarus side promised to grant several scholarships to young engineers of the Water Resources Ministry in the various domains.

 

Activities

- President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Sunday 15/1/2017 his Belarus counterpart Aleksandr Lukashenko at Ittihadiyah Palace, where they reviewed regional and international issues of common concern as the two leaders agreed on the importance of stepping up efforts by the international community to combat terrorism and extremist thoughts .

 

- Following the talks, Sisi and Lukashenko signed a joint declaration and attended the signing ceremony of a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding in the fields of defense, culture, sports, agriculture, water resources and environment.

 

- Both leaders opened on Monday 16/1/2017 the second Egypt-Belarus business forum, which is organized by the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce. The forum was attended by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, several ministers and senior State officials. The Belarus deputy prime minister along with 10 Belarus ministers also attended the forum, as well as a delegation grouping 40 major Belarus companies, who are keen on doing business in Egypt.

 
- Sisi and Lukashenko toured on Monday 16/1/2017 a Belarus products exhibition. They inspected the exhibition after their participation in the forum.
