Pope Tawadros meets Merkel at Coptic Orthodox Cathedral

Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese received on Thursday 02/03/2017 German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbasiya.
Merkel is accompanied by a high-level economic delegation during her visit to Egypt that is meant to enhance supporting the Egyptian economy and increasing investments in Egypt.
Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese said that Egyptian Muslims and Christians are working on building their modern State.
"We, Christians and Muslims, live in amity and friendship and we have joint history of understanding and cooperation in joy and pain and in happiness and ordeal", the pope said at his meeting with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
From time to time, problems erupt due to poverty, ignorance and fanaticism. The Church, in cooperation with the State, works for solving these problems, he added.
