WSJ: Trump-Sisi meeting focuses on security matters

Tuesday، 04 April 2017 - 01:48 PM

A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the White House on Monday 3/4/2017 focused on relationship with Cairo shifts toward security matters, The Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday 4/4/2017.

Trump provided a boost to Sisi on Monday 3/4/2017, giving him a "warm welcome" to the White House as his administration shifts the US focus in its relationship with Cairo away from human rights while emphasizing security cooperation, the paper added.

Trump is seeking what he called a "historic" increase in defense spending. Trump's first budget will call for an increase in defense spending and a corresponding cut in what his administration deems lower priority programs.

Egypt is the second largest recipient of US military aid. The United States gives $1.5 billion annually in military aid to Egypt.
