The UN Security Council (UNSC) unanimously passed an Egyptian resolution to combat terrorist discourse.
In a statement on Thursday 25/5/2017 , the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said this move comes in recognition of the role played by Egypt to fight terrorism ideologies.
In his speech to the UNSC session, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to United Nations Amr Abul Atta thanked all countries which voted for the Egyptian resolution.
He stressed that Egypt's religious institutions, topped by Al Azhar, played a significant role in fighting extremist thoughts, which call on the youth to kill themselves under the pretext of defending Islam.
Abul Atta also urged cutting political and financial support for terrorist groups as a means to eradicate the threat of terrorism in the world.
