In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 19th, the Arab Republic of Egypt warned against the dangerous repercussions of the Israeli security escalation in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the ensuing serious injuries among the Palestinians, in addition to endangering the life of the imam of the Grand Mosque, His Eminence Sheikh Ekrima Sabri.

The statement urged Israel to stop the violence, and respect the freedom of worship and religious sanctities, as well as the right of the Palestinian people to practice religion in a free and safe atmosphere. It also called Israel not to take further measures that would fuel conflict, stir up religious feelings, and increase tension amongst the Palestinians. This will undermine chances to reach a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
