Presidency mourns leftist politician Refaat el Saeed

The presidency has mourned veteran leftist politician Refaat el Saeed who died earlier on Thursday.

Egypt has lost a national political work symbol who enriched the Egyptian political life with his thoughts and stances, the presidency said in a statement.

His biography will remain immortal in the memory of the Egyptian political work, it added. 

El Saeed died at his home in Cairo at the age of 84. 

Born on October 11, 1932, he was known as leftist politician and leader of the National Progressive Unionist Party (Tagammu).

He became the leader of the Tagammu Party in 2005, a post he held until 2013.

In 1995, el Saeed was appointed by then-president Hosni Mubarak as an MP in the Shura Council.     MENA
