In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 17th, the Arab Republic of Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the van attack perpetrated in the Spanish city of Barcelona, killing and injuring a large number of people.

Egypt expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery to the injured. It also affirmed that Egyptian government and people stand with the government and friendly people of Spain against abhorrent terrorism, stressing that such terrorist attacks will not dent governments and peoples’ resilience and determination to uproot terrorism, targeting stability and security in many regions across the world.

The statement outlined that terrorism, with its extremist ideology inciting hatred and violation of human dignity, will not finally emerge triumphant, calling on all countries to intensify their efforts by taking serious and immediate steps to eradicate this phenomenon by drying up its sources of financing, sponsoring, and providing safe havens to its elements.
