Awqaf Minister: Sinai religion conf. backs spirit of tolerance, denounces violence

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa has stressed the importance of the convocation of a conference on heavenly religions, titled "Sinai: The Forum of divine religions".
Addressing the conference on Thursday 28/9/2017, the minister said the conference backed the spirit of tolerance, rejected violence and terrorism and denounced any attempt by terrorist groups to harm the unity of Egypt and its people.
The minister praised President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's efforts to encourage tourism in Egypt especially in Sinai which, he said, enjoys religious and medical tourism potentials, praising coexistence among religions in Egypt.
The three-day conference kicked off on Thursday in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh under the aegis of President Sisi.
Speaking at the conference, South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda said Egypt embodied the spirit of peaceful coexistence among different religions, a matter that is reflected in this important meeting.
The governor also stressed the importance of the Monastery of St. Catherine, the oldest continuously inhabited monastery in the World.
