President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's agenda has seen several activities in October at the national and international levels.
At the International level, President Sisi paid a three-day visit to Paris during which he met his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and other senior officials. The president's visit to Paris was his third since taking office and the first visit to the Élysée Palace since Macron took office. The two leaders discussed ways of fostering bilateral ties in various fields.
President's meetings with officials
October 1: President Sisi stressed the importance of accelerating the development pace of healthcare and insurance, as well as enhancing the services provided to citizens. The president made these remarks in a meeting with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and a number of ministers. Sisi also highlighted the need to develop the financial and human capabilities of the health sector, as it is an important sector that directly affects the daily lives of citizens.
October 1: President Sisi met Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Atti and CEO of Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (Egypt) Mohamed Yehia Zaki. Sisi ordered following up needed preparations ahead of the floods season and intensifying efforts exerted to finalize the dams ventures especially in governorates and vulnerable areas. He gave directives also to use the international most up-to-date technologies in the field of detecting floods and coordinating between the state's bodies concerned to guarantee dealing with crises and emergency cases as soon as possible.
October 3: President Sisi chaired the second meeting of the National Payments Council. Attending the meeting were the prime minister, the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, the heads of the National Bank of Egypt, the Administrative Control Authority and the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority, in addition to the ministers of defense, planning, interior, communications, justice and finance. CBE Governor Tarek Amer reviewed the new formation of the council and its sub-committees, which were formed in coordination with all ministries and bodies concerned.
October 8: President Sisi held a meeting with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and the ministers of defense, interior, justice, finance as well as the heads of General Intelligence Directorate and Administrative Control Authority. The meeting tackled the situation of the unused state lands and assets in which the president directed establishing a database and an overall vision to benefit from these lands and assets. The president also urged justice minister to coordinate with authorities concerned to set a vision concerning the establishment of a justice city where a court complex and headquarters of justice ministry, forensic department and various judicial agencies will be established and also a judicial academy that aims at training judges.
October 10: President Sisi instructed the government to continue implementing the economic and social reform plans aimed at reducing deficit and debt rates in the state budget for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Sisi issued these instructions in a meeting with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and a number of cabinet members. The president also called on the government to work on increasing growth rates and revenues from different resources, as well as rationalizing expenditure and continuing to develop social insurance programs.
October 14: President Sisi met the ministers of housing, electricity, irrigation and petroleum alongside the head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority. During the meeting, Sisi underlined the importance of continued coordination among the bodies concerned to fit out the Administrative Capital with all needed utilities.
October 16: President Sisi hailed efforts exerted by the Armed Forces and police in protecting the nation and civilians as well as purging Sinai of terrorist groups. This came during a meeting with prime minister, ministers of defense, foreign, interior, health, justice, public business sector as well as heads of the intelligence service and the Administrative Control Authority. The meeting tackled efforts to confront terrorism in Sinai and preparations to celebrate the establishment of the new Alamin city on the occasion of the 75th Alamin battle anniversary in which the president directed the government to implement the project as scheduled and according to the international standards.
October 18: President Sisi underlined the importance of upgrading vocational education in the coming period. At a meeting with Minister of Education Tarek Shawky, he added that this approach is meant to groom students for their future life. Shawky expounded at the meeting his vision for upgrading the educational system in general in line with international standards.
October 22: President Sisi has called on security bodies to exert utmost efforts to hunt for the perpetrators of the terrorist attack that occurred on the Wahat road, near Giza. He urged stepping up security and military efforts to prevent any attempts to infiltrate into the country via borders. Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi, Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar and Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Khaled Fawzi. During the meeting, President Sisi asserted that Egypt will effectively and decisively continue to fight terrorism and combat those who fund terrorists.
October 28: President Sisi held a meeting with Defense and Interior Ministers Sedki Sobhi and Madgy Abdel Ghaffar respectively. Attended the get-together were also Head of General Intelligence Service Khaled Fawzy and Defense Minister Assistant Mohamed Farid Hegazy. The meeting was held within the framework of following up the latest security developments and efforts of chasing the terrorist groups especially after the clashes that took place between the police and terrorist elements in Oasis district, leaving a number of terrorists dead. Sisi gave directives to all the bodies concerned to be on high alert so as to counter terrorist groups and chase them given the security challenges in the region and the increasing dangers of terrorism.
October 30: President Sisi met Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy. Sisi underlined the importance of continuing to upgrade and develop the civil aviation sector including Egyptian airports' security systems and qualifying its working human cadres to cope with the latest technologies. Sisi referred to the importance of the civil aviation sector in increasing travelling and tourism movements which would contribute to enhancing the national economy.
Sisi lays wreath on Unknown Soldier Memorial on October war anniversary (October 4, 2017)
President Sisi laid a wreath on the Unknown Soldier tomb on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of October War victory. The President also laid a wreath at the tomb of former president Anwar al Sadat and shook hands with a number of his family members. The President later headed for Kobri el Qoba's Gamal Abdel Nasser Mosque where the late Egyptian leader is buried and laid wreaths at his tomb.
Sisi’s visit to a number of new road projects (October 7, 2017)
President Sisi visited to a number of new road projects, including Shobra-Benha road, Rod el Farag axis, the gates area of Cairo-Alexandria desert road in addition to el Dabaa road. He underlined the importance of developing road networks in order to facilitate the movement and transportation of citizens as well as to push forward development process. The president stressed the importance of maintaining the highest levels of security and safety in transportation sector so as to reduce road accidents and improve the services provided to citizens.
Sisi visits Int'l Conference Center in 5th Settlement district (October 9, 2017)
President Sisi inaugurated the International Conference Center in the Fifth Settlement district of New Cairo. Sisi listened to a detailed explanation on the structure of the center which is established on an area of 10,000 cubic meters. He made a tour at the various facilities at the center. President Sisi attended a cultural symposium at the new international conference center.
President Sisi, also, received the Egyptian national team to congratulate for qualifying for 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Sisi launches several projects (October 11, 2017)
President Sisi launched several projects in the new administrative capital. President Sisi inspected Al Masah Hotel in the New Administrative Capital. The hotel, established on an area of 40 feddans, includes a conference hall, a mosque, a shopping mall and lakes.
President Sisi inspects NTL graduates expo
President Sisi inspected an expo of the Next Technology Leaders (NTL) initiative graduates at the new International Conference Center in the 5th Settlement district of New Cairo. During the tour, Sisi listened to an explanation from two secondary school students on the project of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) that can conduct some underwater operations such as fixing internet cables. He was also briefed by a youth on the usage of robots in education.
Sisi attends 50th anniversary of Egyptian navy (October 19, 2017)
President Sisi attended a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of establishing the Egyptian navy at Ras el Tin naval base. Sisi handed over copies of the Holy Quran and Egyptian flags to commanders of the new naval units as a go-ahead for their new duties. President Sisi raised the national flag at Alexandria naval base after its renovation.
Sisi attends 75th anniversary of Alamein battle (October 21, 2017)
President Sisi took part in a celebration marking the 75th anniversary of the Alamein battle. Delivering a speech on the event, Sisi said the Alamein battle anniversary constitutes an impetus for exerting more efforts to realize peace, especially in the Middle East which faces previous crises. The president said the unprecedented crises are posing threat to security in the region. People in the Middle East are looking forward to a stable and decent life, he said, urging the international community to exert all needed efforts to meet people's aspirations. He noted that the establishment of the new Alamein city was meant to underline the importance of peace and construction.
Sisi attends inspection procedures & raising combat potentials of the Armed Forces 19 Division, 3rd Field Army (October 29, 2017)
President Sisi attended inspection procedures and raising the combat potentials of the Armed Forces 19 Division, Third Field Army in Suez. The event started with playing the national anthem followed by the speech of Third Field Army Commander Major General Mohamed Raafat el Dosh in which he welcomed the president, the supreme commander of the armed forces, and expressed appreciation for his visit that tangibly encourages fighters to work hard to reach the highest levels of proficiency in carrying out missions. A documentary highlighting the historic role of the Armed Forces 19 Division, Third Field Army, during October war in 1973 was screened during the event. The film featured battles in which the 19 Division achieved victories during October war. The role of 19 Division in protecting the nation and assets of people during January 25 Revolution, along with its anti-terror efforts in Sinai were displayed during the event as well.
President Sisi’s address to the meeting of the Palestinian national unity government in Gaza (October 3, 2017)
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid a sincere greetings to the Palestinian people with all its factions and stressed that the Palestinian issue has been a top priority for him during his meetings with world leaders and in international forums.
Sisi noted that Egypt is keen to offer all forms of support to the Palestinian people.
Sisi pointed out that there is a golden chance to bring peace to the region, pointing out that cooperation is needed to affirm the real approach of the Palestinian people towards achieving peace.
President Sisi's speech to Egyptian people on 6th of October War anniversary (October 4, 2017)
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi greeted the Egyptian people on the 44th anniversary of the 6th of October War.
He also paid tribute to Egypt's servicemen, who sacrificed their souls for Egypt.
This came during the meeting held by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces under President Sisi with the participation of Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi and other high-ranking officers.
President Sisi also lauded great sacrifices offered by the Egyptian people and servicemen to defeat terrorism and rebuild the Egyptian State.
President Sisi congratulates national team for qualifying to 2018 FIFA World Cup (October 8, 2017)
President Abdel El Fattah El Sisi congratulated the Egyptian national team for qualifying for 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Sisi praised the distinguished performance by the players and the coaching staff in the qualifiers.
The President also appreciated the Egyptian fans who supported their national team.
President's meetings with foreign officials
October 2: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received credentials of 16 newly-appointed ambassadors to Egypt.
The ambassadors represent Thailand, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Argentina, France, Switzerland, Niger, Ghana, Croatia, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Guatemala, Comoros and Turkmenistan.
The President welcomed the diplomats, wishing them all success in their new mission.
October 3: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and all of Africa Theodore II. Sisi stressed that Egypt pays special attention to boosting the values of acceptance and tolerance, as well as coexistence between different religions.
Meanwhile, Theodore II commended Egypt's vital role in achieving stability and preserving the security of the Middle East region.
He also praised the country's national unity and its efforts to boost the principles of citizenship, equality and the spread of tolerance among all segments of the society without any discrimination.
Müller, for his part, congratulated Sisi on Egypt's qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and praised the role played by Cairo in the Middle East region.
October 17: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder and said that Egypt is keen on maintaining contacts with all segments of the US society to promote joint stances on means of confronting regional challenges.
For his part, Lauder hailed the recent positive developments in Egypt which attest to the revival of the national economy.
October 18: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Portuguese Minister of State for Administrative Modernization Graça Fonseca and said that Egypt is seeking to benefit from the Portuguese experience in the field of administrative reform.
For her part, Graça Fonseca said her country is looking forward to enhance relations with Egypt in all fields to serve the best interests of the two sides.
October 21: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Shri M. J. Akbar and affirmed the strength of the historical relations between Egypt and India, pointing out that Egypt's keenness to continue strengthening them.
For his part, Akbar handed Sisi a message from the Indian prime minister, thanking him for Egypt's support to India's candidate to the International Justice Court.
October 22: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Australia's Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and underlined the importance of fostering cooperation between Egypt and Australia in various domains, especially in trade and investment scores.
October 22: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi. During the meeting, ways to promote the bilateral relations between Cairo and Baghdad were discussed.
Sisi congratulated Abadi for the achievements of the Iraqi Armed Forces in the war against Daesh.
President’s Foreign Visits
President Sisi’s visit to France (October 23 - 25, 2017)
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid an official visit to France during which he met his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and other senior officials.
The President's visit to Paris is the third since taking office and the first visit to the Élysée Palace since Macron took office.
President Sisi met French Defense Minister Florence Parly. At a banquet hosted by the French minister, the two sides discussed means of boosting defense and military cooperation between the two countries.
President Sisi held a meeting with Eric Trappier, the chairman of Dassault Aviation, a French maker of Rafale fighter jets. During the meeting, President Sisi hoped for boosting the existing cooperation with the French company during the coming period. For his part, the Dassault chairman appreciated cooperation with Egypt, stressing his company’s keenness to push such cooperation forward.
President Sisi has granted an interview to Le Figaro daily. The interview tackled a number of issues of common concern for both Egypt and France, including the threats of terrorism. It also took up the situation in Egypt since the June 30 Revolution in 2013, and Egypt’s vision on several Egyptian, Arab and international issues.
President Sisi held session of talks with French President
President Sisi and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron started a tete-a-tete session of talks at the Elysee Palace. Macron welcomed the Egyptian president upon his arrival at the Elysee Palace after he was given a red-carpet reception at des Invalides Palace. Talks between the two leaders will extend over a luncheon banquet held in honor of the Egyptian president and his accompanying delegation.
President Sisi thanked his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for the warm reception he received in Paris, praising historical relations between the two countries in all fields. Speaking at the press conference, Sisi said his talks with Macron focused on means of boosting bilateral relations at the political, strategic, economic and cultural levels, as well as the Egyptian economic reform program. Sisi added that he witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding worth 400 million Euros in the fields of energy, infrastructure and transportation. At the end of the press conference, Sisi invited Macron to visit Egypt soon to probe means of fostering prospects of cooperation in all fields.
