FM examines with Kuwaiti Emir means to strengthen Arab unity

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on November 13th with Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, and with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah, on the second day of his Arab tour to examine developments in the region, and means to enhance Arab unity against regional increasing challenges.
The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Counselor Ahmed Abu Zaid, said that at the beginning of the meeting, Shoukry conveyed greetings of the President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, hailing the brotherly and distinguished relations between the two sisterly countries and peoples, and Kuwait’s valued stances in favor of Egypt, which are highly esteemed and respected by the Egyptian people. Foreign Minister also affirmed Egypt's full appreciation of the endeavors by the State of Kuwait in the Arab arena in order to enhance Arab consensus and solidarity.
The Spokesperson added that Minister Shoukry discussed during the meeting the latest developments in the region, and concerns over recent escalations, especially following the missile attack by the Houthis against Riyadh, the Bahrain oil pipeline blast, and the political developments on the Lebanese scene. This entails intensifying the mechanisms of consultation and coordination of positions between the Arab countries in order to preserve the Arab national security, and spare the region further tension and instability. Shoukry was also keen to convey Egypt’s vision and assessment in terms of dealing with the current challenges, and its steadfast stance in support of peaceful resolution of conflicts and disputes, and promoting Arab solidarity and cohesion which is the guarantor of the region’s security and stability.
For his part, HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad reviewed the efforts undertaken by the State of Kuwait in order to preserve the Arab unity and to address the various challenges facing the Arab nation, while stressing the centrality of the Egyptian role in the joint Arab action as a main pillar of the security and stability of the Arab region. The meeting also addressed the latest developments on the regional and international scenes, particularly the developments in the Qatari crisis, and the assessment of the situations in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, as Shoukry briefed the Kuwaiti side on the Egyptian efforts aimed at building national consensus among the various Libyan parties.
Abu Zeid added that, after meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, Foreign Minister held extensive talks with the Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah. They tackled in detail and exchanged views on the various challenges facing the region, which reflected both countries’ compatible positions calling for consolidating the mechanisms of dialogue and coordination amongst Arab States as an ideal way to solve crises and face common challenges.
The two sides discussed as well the preparations in the run up to the meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo this Sunday, and means to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields, as they underscored the need to support the Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations and develop them towards wider horizons, so as to serve their countries’ common interests and achieve the hopes and aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
Finally, the Egyptian and Kuwaiti sides agreed to continue their intensive consultations and coordination in the coming period, and to spare no effort to preserve Arab unity and to deal with the challenges related to the security and stability of the region in general.
