Sisi Reaffirms Egypt’s Stance on Reaching Political Solution to Libya Crisis

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday 10/12/2017 reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on the necessity for reaching a political solution to the Libyan crisis. Also, President Sisi underlined the importance of concluding a political agreement that could represent the corner stone in regaining stability to the North African country and preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The president's remarks during a meeting with Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez al Sarraj, in the presence of Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Taha Siala and Finance Minister Osama Hamad, as well as Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Finance Minister Amr El Garhy and General Intelligence Authority chief Khaled Fawzi.
For his part, al Sarraj praised Egypt’s exceptional efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya, as evidenced by the role Cairo in hosting the ongoing meetings of a Libyan military’s delegation and standing against all foreign attempts to interfere and destabilize Libya, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Furthermore, President Sisi and al Sarraj reviewed the latest political developments on the Libyan arena and efforts exerted by the UN special envoy, the presidential spokesman added. The two sides have touched on Egypt’s endeavors with various Libyan political factions to support the political path in Libya, Rady noted.
Efforts meant to bring about a political settlement in Libya should be supported, Rady quoted Sisi as saying.
Moreover, President Sisi has called on all Libyan parties to give a top priority to the country’s national interest and stability, in addition to focusing on the re-construction of the state’s institutions, Rady said.
Underway good offices to unite the Libyan military were also discussed during the meeting, Rady confirmed.
The meeting touched on ways of fostering bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as the two sides shed light on efforts to develop a comprehensive strategy to uproot this scourge.
