Saturday، 13 January 2018 - 01:46 PM

Egypt and World’s number one Nour El-Sherbini has managed to clinch the first ever squash Saudi Masters after overcoming fellow compatriot Raneem El-Welily in straight sets.

El-Sherbini won by three straight sets. First set ended with 11-7, penultimate set 11-8 and the ultimate with 13 points for El-Sherbini to 11 points for El-Welily.

“I felt that I was in control, yes, but at no time it was easy. I never felt comfortable. Even I was ahead in the score, she was always coming back,” El-Sherbini stated post her victory.

“After I lost in the worlds final, I changed my game plan, but it’s so hard to implement here, on my own! I’m so used to having somebody with me, supporting me and advising me. It was very hard today.

After my loss in the worlds final, this match and this victory means a lot to me. But I know this is not the end! I will have many many more battles with Raneem.”

The Saudi PSA Women’s Squash Masters was the inauguration of female competitions after the Kingdom’s recent openness procedures regarding women rights.

“I am extremely proud of being part of this historical event. I am not going to repeat all what Raneem said, but I feel the same, I want to thank everybody that made this event possible for us, it’s an amazing event, we are blessed to have been part of it, and I’m proud I won the first one, I hope to come back next year to defend my title.”
