SIS Chairman: Terrorist incidents declined in 2017

Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS) Diaa Rashwan said that there is a real decline in the number of terrorist incidents in Egypt during 2017 as compared to the previous years.
During his participation in the third day's activities of the "Story of Homeland" conference on Friday 19/01/2018, Rashwan said that terrorism is confined in the north-eastern part of Sinai in an area reaching no more than 100km.
Rashwan pointed out that Egypt witnessed 650 terrorist incidents in 2015 on the basis of 40% inside Sinai and 60% in the Valley. He added that the year 2016 witnessed 200 terrorist incidents on the basis of 85% inside Sinai and 15% in the Valley.
SIS Chairman explained that the year 2017 witnessed 50 terrorist incidents on the basis of 92% inside Sinai and 8% in the Valley.
Rashwan pointed out that the weapons seized with terrorists included 1300 4X4 Land Cruisers with costs reaching USD 2.2 billion, RPG weapons with costs reaching nearly EGP 55-60 thousand and mortar shells with costs reaching thousands of Egyptian pounds.Mr. Rashwan made clear that 1800 terrorists were killed by the police and Armed Forces, who succeeded to foil plans of establishing camps for terrorists in Egypt.
