Sisi partakes in behind-closed-door session of AU summit

Sunday، 28 January 2018 - 02:40 PM

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi took part in the in-camera session of the 30th African Union Summit on Sunday 28/1/2018, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.

The closed session discussed items on the agenda of the summit, including the institutional reforms of the union.

President Sisi expressed Egypt's appreciation for the efforts of the Guinean and Rwandan presidents in the institutional reforms file.

Speaking about the relationship among the AU Heads of State and Government Assembly and the permanent delegates' committee, Sisi said the assembly is the supreme body of the union that enjoys absolute sovereignty while the other AU bodies are only entrusted with carrying out directives of the assembly.

But it was proven that the decision-taking process within the union should pass through different levels before decisions are raised to the summit or non-official presidential meetings for endorsement.

These decisions, Sisi said, must be first reviewed to avoid any problems that might appear when they come into force.
