Egypt elected deputy head of WFP executive council

Countries members of the executive council of the World Food Program (WFP) elected Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Hisham Badr as deputy head of the WFP's executive council.
This came after the African group nominated Badr for this post which allows Egypt to be head of the WFP's executive council for the first time in its history.
In a statement, Badr underlined that electing Egypt for the post comes at the same time as three African regions namely; Somalia, South Sudan and northeastern Nigeria are threatened by famine.
Egypt will continue casting spotlight on supporting the needs of the African continent in the field of food security and nutrition and urging the development partners to provided needed support, the ambassador asserted.
