FM, JUF delegation confer on Egypt-US relations

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Monday 19/3/2018 a delegation of the Jewish United Fund (JUF), which is based in the US.
The meeting took up Egyptian-US ties, with Shoukry stressing Cairo's keenness on boosting cooperation and coordination with the US administration regarding issues of mutual concern, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
Shoukry also reviewed the positive outcome of visits by the envoy of the US president and US secretary of state to Egypt during which Egyptian officials highlighted Cairo's vision regarding regional crises, Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry had agreed with his US counterpart to hold a strategic dialogue during the second half of this year, he noted.
During his meeting with the JUF delegation, Shoukry reviewed the latest political and economic developments in Egypt, the spokesman further said.
He also posted them on preparations for the upcoming presidential election, Abu Zeid added.
The meeting also took up Egyptian efforts to fight terrorism, with focus on the comprehensive military operation currently going on in Sinai, he said.
The JUF delegates were keen on listening to a detailed explanation about the Egyptian economic reform program, Abu Zeid said, noting that they were pleased with tangible progress in Egypt's economic performance.
The meeting also tackled the situation in Syria, with Shoukry reiterating the need to support aspirations of the Syrian people and protect their national unity through a political solution, the spokesman added.
They also discussed the latest Palestinian developments and efforts exerted by Egypt to revive negotiations with the aim to reach just and comprehensive peace, Abu Zeid said.
