Sisi urges Bibliotheca Alexandrina to enhance role in digital space field

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Thursday 19/04/2018 with members of the board of trustees of Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the presence of former presidents of some countries such as Romania, Albania, Finland and Serbia besides some Egyptian and foreign prominent figures and scholars.

During his speech delivered at the beginning of the meeting, Sisi welcomed the members of the board of trustees, said presidential spokesman Bassam Rady in press statements on Thursday.

The president affirmed that Bibliotheca Alexandrina enhances the value of knowledge at a time when the world faces grave challenges and the Arab region suffers some problems.

Sisi underscored that the world encounters some challenges topped by terrorism which targets destroying civilization, adding that Egypt fights this phenomenon to defend the homeland characterized by tolerance besides protecting the Arab region and the whole world.

He further stressed the importance of fighting terrorism at the intellectual level to preserve youths from the extremist intellectual cgroups, referring to the vital role played by Bibliotheca Alexandrina to encounter extremism.

The president reiterated that the City of Knowledge is being established now in the New Administrative Capital which reflects the new spirit prevailing the country.

He hailed the efforts exerted by Bibliotheca Alexandrina to spread culture and preserve heritage in many fields, referring to the Arab Knowledge Project which documents heritage which is considered a main aspect of identity and national memory of the Arab culture.

The president hailed the ongoing expansion in the the Embassies of Knowledge project where the cultural edifice transfers knowledge to the Egyptian universities, pointing out that some regional and international universities will benefit from this experience.

Sisi urged Bibliotheca Alexandrina to enhance its role in the digital space field and organize conferences to tackle the international variables in the intellectual, cultural and technological domains, the spokesman said.

He referred to the scientific conference which will be hosted by Bibliotheca Alexandrina with the participation of about 3,000 scientists and public figures from all over the world to probe the issue of sustainable development.

The president also asserted that the most important challenge facing Egypt is development and curbing poverty, noting that the State works on achieving social justice and improving the citizens' livelihood.

Egypt works on developing slums and providing housing units to about 200,000 families, Sisi underscored.
