Cypriot, Greek presidents Visit to Egypt

President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi receives on Monday 30/4/2018 the Presidents of Cyprus and Greece to launch the “Roots Revival” initiative, to honor foreign communities.
The seven-day “Roots Revival” initiative, also known as “Nostos the Return”, comes as part of a cooperation protocol signed by the three countries last December. The protocol aims to bring Cypriots and Greeks, who used to live in Alexandria, back to the city.
A special program for 120 visitors representing the second and third generations of Egyptian-Greek communities in different world countries has been prepared, Minister of Immigration and Expatriates’ Affairs Nabila Makram added. The program is set to include visits to the places in which their families used to live, such as Zizinia and El Raml neighborhoods in Alexandria, followed by a visit to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, a tour of Giza Pyramids, and finally a visit to Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The project is an initiative of Makram, who visited Cyprus along with Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Terence Quick for consultations with Cyprus’ Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs Photis Photiou, as part of the tripartite cooperation of the three countries on diaspora issues.

The initiative is meant to enhance relations between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus and revive the historic tourism for the Greek and Cypriot communities that used to live in the country during previous times.
The initiative aims at organizing visits for them to areas where these communities had lived and linking the new generations to the Egyptian civilization.
The launching ceremony of the "Roots Revival" initiative witnessed the participation of Defense and Military Production Minister Sedki Sobhi, the Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish and the ministers of international cooperation, health and trade and industry.
A documentary entitled "The Return" was shown during the ceremony tackling the mix between the Egyptian, Greek and Cypriot cultures.
- Egyptian-Greek-Cypriot Business Forum convenes with the participation of the Greek and Cypriot heads of state, Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Nicos Anastasiades, respectively, and a large number of businessmen.
The Cypriot President conferred with Qabil, on the sidelines of the "Roots Revival" week-long initiative, also known as "Nostos the Return", on ways to promote trade and economic cooperation between the two countries particularly in light of close political relations.
