Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said on Sunday 20/5/2018 his government gives priority to implementing a strategy to diversify sources of energy and secure supplies and good governance.
Speaking in a press conference to announce final offers made by three consortiums seeking to establish a power generation plant in Hamrawein district of the Red Sea governorate, Ismail said the project is meant to use clean coal as a main source of fuel.
Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said the winning consortium will be named next week.
The Hamarawein plant should generate 6,000 megawatts of electricity, Shaker told reporters, adding that the project also includes the establishment of a port to unload coal and a closed area to store it.
