Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head for Algeria on Monday 21/5/2018 to take part in a ministerial meeting on the latest developments in the conflict-ridden Libya.
The get-together comes within the framework of periodical meetings of the mechanism of Libya’s neighbors which groups Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid in statements on Sunday.
The tripartite talks target supporting the Libyans at the political and security levels to achieve the needed national consensus to reach a political settlement to the Libyan conflict besides backing efforts of maintaining national security and stability and fighting terrorism, the spokesman asserted.
The meeting is to be held during an extremely important timing as the UN efforts are being intensified to push forward the deadlocked Libyan political settlement and implement the roadmap for resolving the country's political crisis via holding parliamentary and presidential elections, he noted.
He further pointed out to the Egyptian endeavors aiming at uniting the Libyan military institution besides combating terrorism and organized crime.
The foreign minister's participation in the tripartite mechanism's periodical meetings reflects the special attention paid by Egypt to backing efforts aimed at reaching a viable settlement for the Libyan crisis, Abu Zeid affirmed.
