Government to strictly tackle electricity theft practices

Saturday، 26 May 2018 - 03:34 PM

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Saturday 26/05/2018 stressed that the government would strictly tackle the practices of stealing the electricity through adopting legal deterrent actions against the violators.

Such wrongdoing will handicap developing the power grids in the districts, in which these malpractices exist, Ismail said during his meeting with Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker where they discussed the electricity theft phenomenon in some neighborhoods in the new cities.

By continuing supporting districts where electricity theft is rife, the country would appear as if it tolerates such a behavior which negatively affect respectful law-abiding citizens who duly pay their power bills, the premier added.

Stealing the electricity would lead to power blackouts due to the heavy electrical loads, especially in the summer season when consumption is always at its peak, Shaker said.

The minister urged citizens and households siphoning off electricity from the national power grid to go to the power distribution companies in their neighborhoods to adjust their status and have electricity meters fitted to receive the service legally.
