FM, UN envoy probe finding political solution to Syrian crisis

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Monday 11/6/2018 with visiting United Nations special envoy to Syria Steffan di Mistura the latest developments in the violence-hit country and finding political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Di Mistura's visit to Cairo comes within the framework of the UN's keenness on consulting and coordinating with Egypt pertaining to finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis in light of the vital role played by Egypt in this regard via its contacts with the regional and international parties concerned, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
At the beginning of the get-together, the UN envoy posted Shoukry about the latest developments in Syria at the political, security and humanitarian levels besides his evaluation of the efforts exerted to push forward the political process and to put into effect the road map to form a constitutional committee, the spokesman underlined.
The foreign minister pointed out to the ongoing Egyptian endeavors aiming at reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis to preserve the sovereignty and unity of the Syrian state and the integrity of its territories and stop bloodshed in line with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), especially resolution No. 2254, Abu Zeid reiterated.
Shoukry stressed Egypt's keenness on supporting the efforts of the UN envoy and rendering his mission successful, noting that the political solution should conform with the aspirations of the Syrian people.
The UN envoy hailed Egypt's efforts to push forward the political process in the violence-hit country at the humanitarian and political levels, adding that the UN looks forward to more coordination with Egypt during the coming phase in this regard, the spokesman affirmed.
