Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Abu Bakr Hefny on Tuesday hailed the depth of relations between Egypt and Ethiopia, citing the unprecedented level of mutual understanding between the two countries' leaders.

He made the remarks during a celebration organized by the Egyptian embassy in Addis Ababa to mark the 66th anniversary of the 23 July 1952 revolution.

The ceremony was attended by a host of diplomats, members of the Egyptian community in Addis Ababa and a galaxy of public figures, artists and journalists.

Delivering a speech at the event, Abu Bakr highlighted a key decision, taken by the Egyptian, Ethiopian and Sudanese leaders at the AU summit held in Addis Ababa in January 2018, to resume joint consultations with the aim of reviving sustainable strategic relations among the three states.

The consultations resulted in a number of key steps, including an agreement to establish a tripartite fund for development projects in the three countries, he said.

With regard to the Grand Renaissance Ethiopian Dam, Abu Bakr said the three countries have a common view to settle the issue by maintaining communication and cooperation among the Nile-basin states.

Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, looks forward to taking the African Union’s presidency in 2019, with a plan to enhance joint African action and foster economic integration among African states, he noted.
