Sisi: My visit to Sudan has special significance for me, for all Egyptian people

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Thursday that his visit to Sudan has a special significance for him personally and for all Egyptians, citing the strong historical bonds connecting between the two countries and their peoples.


In a joint press conference with his Sudanese counterpart Omar al Bashir, Sisi said that every Egyptian living in Sudan feels that he has not left his homeland.


stressing that his visit comes within the framework of the similar regional and international policies of the two countries.


Sisi greeted Bashir and expressed his happiness for visiting Khartoum, underlining the importance of continued coordination between both countries on regional and international issues of mutual concern to serve their strategic interests in all fields, including the political, economic, security, water and cultural ones.


He pointed out that both countries share a common destiny. Sisi thanked Bashir for the warm hospitality accorded to him and expressed his appreciation of Sudan's genuine efforts to boost its relations with Egypt, which was evident in all the joint committee meetings and the bilateral cooperation mechanisms and helped in overcoming many difficulties.


The president pointed out to the joint national projects, at the forefront the electricity linkage between the two countries, underlining the need to foster consultation and coordination on various issues that concern both peoples.


He also expressed his appreciation for Sudan's efforts to settle regional disputes, achieve peace and stability in the region, as well as development of neighboring countries.


In addition, the president stressed Egypt's full support for Sudan's regional peace efforts, underlining Cairo's keenness on continuing to contribute to achieving peace and prosperity in the region, based on the vision that the security and stability of the regional neighboring countries is an integral part of Egypt's national security and a main component of the country's foreign policy.


Sisi expressed his happiness of the positive developments in relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea, adding that Egypt will continue its full support for the establishment of peace, stability and constructive cooperation between the two sisterly countries.


He underscored Egypt's willingness to work with South Sudan to achieve peace in the region, so that the people of South Sudan would enjoy the stability and prosperity which they seek and deserve.
